Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hey there!

It's quite difficult stuff you challenge lately smile.gif

As you probably expect there are some things to be tweaked. First is the way you execute first part. In original lesson those are kind of "Malmsteenish" sweep picking runs. In your take it's more like alternate picking + legato. Sweeps have specific tonal response, and that's why the author could chosen them instead of a kind of execution you showed us.

Another thing is picking direction - that's a subjective thing but it may cause some hand sync issues at some point. Fast parts are fine but when the rhythm is not like a constant 16th notes, than the way you choose downstroke or upstroke has no basis in regular hand pulse that creates this assignment just like with simple chord strumming. Left hand works fine and your position shifts are fast and precise. There's definitely some huge amount of work put in this lesson smile.gif

Final thing is the kind of reverb. Unfortunately this kind of slap back is not a good choice. It creates sort of "ping pong" from the 60's feel, and it makes a lot of mess in the mix. It also creates a feeling of timing issues that in fact may not be in your playing at all. Of course I speak of this particular reverb in this particular situation. It's a dense playing and dense backing track. Maybe at least try to roll down predelay parameter to almost 0 and put a highpass filter on reverb so it will only cut a little with it's presence, but will not create a "bathrrom" effect in the mix.

Those are things to fix but there are many good things about your playing - your right hand in general seems to be quite relaxed nad shaped properly, without unnecessary tension. The tone is good excluding mentioned reverb.

Hi mate, nice to see this Lian's lesson at REC!

This is a very interesting lesson to practice two strings sweep picking and alternate picking, as well as vibrato. I think that Darius comments have been precise about the things that need attention. I have to say that I agree on everything he said about technique and also about your guitar sound.

I think that this is not far from being perfect but that you need to adjust those technique details (picking direction, use of sweep picking, economise movements) to make everything sound cleaner and clearer.

That's all by now, please keep on practicing.

Cool!

I enjoyed the sweeping parts -although they were not as precise sounding as Lians. I am not sure how much of it is because of the sound vs technique, so follow Darius sound advice first and then record again to check if you can start to isolate mistakes in your playing.

I did not enjoy the slow parts as much (ie starting at 00:17). As mentioned vibrato needs improvement. And more importantly give those slower sections more time and love. Analyse the instructors' playing: does the timing feel rushed/relaxed to you, how is the pick attack, type of vibrato etc.

You get a 5 from me. Keep up the hard work - looking forward to hear a new take!
