Hey guys,
I recently purchased a USB audio interface so I can play around with some software and do some recording. I didn't want to spend a ton of money and felt like I got a pretty decent deal with the CI1 by Steinberg. It seemed like a good entry level box and I didn't want to spend a lot of time looking around.

Now for my question. I'm using Guitar Rig 5 and I can't get it to output to my computer speakers. I can use my amp by using one of the line outs on the box. I know that I can use a direct connection from the line out to my speakers, but I don't really want to do that.
Before I bought the box, I tried Guitar Rig by using a direct connection to my computer's soundcard and selecting the ASIO driver as the device and setting the outputs to my soundcard in order to use my speakers as the output. If I now select my USB audio interface, the only outputs I can select are the line outs on the box.
I've messed around a lot with my computer's 'sound' settings as well (Realtek HD Audio Manager).

Can you hear your guitar through the speakers with the plugin off/bypassed? Also, are you using it stand alone or as a plugin inside a daw like reaper? All those factors come in to play. If you are using it stand alone, make sure the preferences for Guitar Rig are set correctly.

Hey there! Congrats on getting the interface.
In order to hear output on your computer speakers, you need to connect them directly to your CI1 interface line outputs. Once you do that, you need to setup your recording software (or Guitar Rig 5 only if you are using it standalone for jamming) to use the ASIO driver of your CI1 interface as a primary sound device.
CI1 is essentially an external sound card so speakers need to be physically connected to it if you want to hear audio from it. When you connect the interface to your computer, you basically don't need to use "inferior" integrated sound card at all as the new one "takes over".

Yes, Bogdan is right, you should connect your speakers to CI1. Ypu will probably need to buy an adapter cable so your computer speakers can be connected to stereo outputs on the CI1, but after that you will be able to hear the sound no problem. CI1 is basically your external audio card now (you won't use your Realtek integrated chip no more).

Yes, Ivan and Bogdan are right. Although, are your computer speakers seperate from your computer or do you mean the internal speakers that are mounted within the monitor ?

Ah good ! That's ok then.
Yes, I had to buy 2 leads (phono, I think they were called.. red and black) and connect my interface to my speakers. Then you go into your control panel in your pc and got into 'sound'.. select your audio interface as your audio output and then you should be ready to rock !
