I'm no bass expert by any means but I too have also been looking to play funk in bass. Ive been looking at this bass for a while now, plays great and not too bad. Squires makes decent stuff if you get there more high end once.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Squ...Bass?sku=519639 It also looks great. -------------------- |

I reacently went with my friend bass guitarist in shopping and we`ve found some very very nice Peavey bass guitars. TRY to find their Millenium series. THey are very well suited for what you wanna play. My bass player has a Peavey Cirrus, a litle expensive model, but much much better than mexican fenders. THe best thing for jazz\funk is surely jazz bazz but that a bit expensive. Millenium series i think should just cut it for the price. And they give a lot.

I would recommend to you to buy a jazz bass type guitar..Meaning J J (two single ones) pickups configuration..That way you will get a lot of options on different styles of music..Also I would recomend you to take a look at Peavey bass guitars because they make very good instruments and are not expensive..If you can find a used fender jazz bass usa made that would be the ultimate solution..I don't find yamaha guitars worth the price and squier ones aren't good either...I haven't tried Ibanez though.. Tell me what you get/got ...

Ibanez not very good in what is after for in my oppinion. Listen to Bogdan and buy a Peavey or used Fender Jazz. He knows what he is talking about - he plays a lot of funk
