GMC Forum _ Recording _ Anybody Using Kontakt?

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Dec 29 2011, 11:05 PM

I recently got a great discount price for Kontakt 4. It's all-in-one package for composers, has everything needed really.

Is anybody else using it? Do you have some opinions about it? Although the library is massive, I find the samples flat and stiff, but usable..

Yeah,I have it, but I don't use his library, I have some of my trusted midi samples !

I use Kontakt all the time. It's the industry standard sampler. I rarely, rarely use any of the factory samples though and like most composers, rely on third party Kontakt sample libraries from companies like Cinesamples, 8dio, Soundiron, Sample Logic, Heavyocity, Vir2, Kirk Hunter, etc.

What is Kontact ? Is it a libraby of sound effects, MIDI voices etc that would be useful to even film score composers ?

I use Kontak all the time, I've use for all my songs and I really like, I think it has a lot of nice sounds to create mood on your compositions or to create great lead melodies.

Check out my songs , all of them has something made with Kontakt. http://www.myspace.com/willsguitarist1

I've used it for a while now, and this is first time I hear about these third party sample libraries. Gotta check how that sounds. Thanks for these informations! smile.gif

There are many, many more Kontakt instrument developers than the few I mentioned.

Some others...

Scarbee
ProjectSAM
Audiobro
Spitfire Audio
sample modelling
Sonic Couture
Zero-G
Sonokinetic
NineVoltAudio

...and heaps more.

As another example, all the drums, choir and brass in this piece use various 3rd party Kontakt libraries. http://soundcloud.com/cruciform/tiberian-ascent-choral

I agree - the standard Kontact library is workmanlike but dull. NI themselves have a bunch of instruments that sound a lot better, including their Organ instrument that replaces B4. It is rare to find a sample library that requires Kontact - most of them bundle a read only versipon of Kontact player anyway, so I would only get Kontact if you were interested in making your own samples.
