Rage Against the Machine - Amazing thought provoking lyrics without being preachy over a kick as* sound created by one of the most original guitarists ever. Guns N' Roses - My life has a GNR soundtrack... they have always been there through the good and the bad. Will always be one of my favorites. The Rolling Stones - They've been around forever and are still going strong. Charlie Watts is just a cool mutha. Metallica - Great riffs and just a great metal band. Probably my first real intro into metal. Fleetwood Mac - Just a classic band...great songs with a lot of heart. Lindsey Buckingham is one of the greatest guitarists ever in my opinion. As for the newer stuff I kinda agree with what you said, but I think it's more of them trying really hard to get back to the Defiatley Maybe days. I still like them though regardless. Although I didn't start listening to them until after Dimebag was killed, pure coincidence, he is an idol of mine now. If you havn't listened to 101 proof, then listen to it, then you'll see..... Opeth - Åkerfeldt is a musical genious, I just love the music because it's so beautiful, everything is perfect with them imo Ulver - Garm might even be more of a musical genious than Åkerfeldt, and the fact that they've gone from black metal to experimental electronica and still sounds awesome makes me really admire them. Katatonia - My favourite doom metal band, and also my favourite drpressive rock band, and they've made one of my favourite records ever, namely Brave Murder Day (with Åkerfeldt on vocals!) Agalloch - Influenced by early Ulver and Katatonia, but still they do their thing, and the feeling in all their songs is awesome, and they innovate a lot without sounding boring or forced, I have no words. Isis - Sludge/post metal when it's best. Sigur Rós - Beautiful icelandic post rock, allthough they have their ups and downs, everything that isn't perfect is forgiven when listening to the ( ) album. In Flames - I had heard OF these for a while before i properly got into metal. I had heard one of their songs off of an internet movie actually and i instantly loved it, but i didn't really take it any further than that until a while later when i decided i was sick of listening to pop crap on the radio and wanted to get into my own music In Flames are the band that sprung to mind at the time and ever since i started listening to them i loved them. From their old stuff to new i love their riffing and rhythm stuff. Cloud connected is a good example of this. Also i love the melodic stuff they use and My Sweet Shadow was the song that made me decide finally that i wanted to play Guitar. Children of Bodom - I've listened to this band for a while now but they never get boring. Alexi is a gret guitar player and his solos always seem to be something special. If i had to complain about COB it would have to be his vocals at times i think it can sound a bit bad but you get used to that and put up with it to listen to everything else because it's great. Obviously the most noticeable part about COB is the solo guitar stuff but i don't think the other band mates get enough credit. Dark Tranquillity - A great band! Again sticking to the melodic death metal area which is my favourite style of metal (if anyone knows some really good melodic death metal bands let me know!) Love the riffing and the keyboard is kind of like the icing on the cake for this band it sounds great with it. And the vocals i think fits the band perfectly so they easily become one of my favourites. Having listened to their newest album released in April i believe it was a relief to hear they're sticking to their awesomeness. Opeth - What a band! Opeth stuff seems so different to anything i've ever heard before and it's fantastic. Opeth totally blow me away and it's good to know that there are bands out there that can really make a difference and create different music. Opeth are an inspiration to me where guitar playing is concerned. I'm yet to hear a band like these Killswitch Engage - I used to listen to these a lot and then stopped for a while and now really back into them. It's great KsE are one of those bands who really know how to play rhythm guitar properly and not just use nothing but power chords all the time like these crappy punk bands and stuff (no offense to anyone who likes punk) So there's mine pretty much at the moment. I'm starting to get into stuff like Blind Guardian and Symphony X at the moment if anyone knows some great songs by them let me know also. Generally i'm really open to getting into new music so if you know any really good stuff then also let me know . Try not to get me into black or death metal though it probably won't work.
