Hi everyone, I have the opportunity to purchase a Gibson Custom Shop SG Standard Reissue VOS Electric Guitar which retails for about 3200 for a mere $700, but as someone who plays more bluesy things like Jimi and uses a clean tone often, i wonder if i would be better off buying a strat for about 800 or 900 dollars. Am i crazy for not immediately taking this deal and is this SG versatile enough to cover things other than Angus Young style rock? Thanks for your help.

My friend Erik (of Z0mb13 T0a5t3r) owns an sg, and he says its great,
and i would say it is versatile couse, we use it for metal, and hes
really into DragonForce, which he also plays...

I guess its good for the stuff i just named, but i dont know bout anything
else.
Good luck w/ the sg! tongue.gif

Sg's are great guitars. They're humbuckers so they wont give you single coil tone, but they'll definitely have a nice clean tone.

i would be cautious, because it seems too Good to be true.

if it is for real, you are an idiot not to jump on it at 700. i just cannot imaGine the reason for sellinG so cheap. makes no sense, unless family or super friend.

btw, clapton played an SG in early days, did not pick up strat till later. certainly excellent for blues, no question about it.

do it, even if not your dream item, you will love it, and unreal deal. vos are super. my les paul 58 reissue is really a step over your normal les paul.

You should definetly go for it! $700 (if in a ok state) is a steal

SG's are kickass and can be used for alot of different stuff.

I own an SG an take my word for it...Its an extremely versatile guitar. I play everything from country, jazz, rock, blues, metal, death metal and everything in between. The SG works with so many different styles its great!

btw, i own a Gibson SG. neat, very easy to play. unique sound. same pickups as Gabriels lp, but sound very different.

vos is made special, top wood, top quality production. not sure it yours will have the lonG neck tenon or not. but sure to be super quality in every way.

looked it up. yes, lonG tenon. burstbuckers. i hate you!

Versatility of guitar depends of a player a lot,if you know what I'm saying. smile.gif
Overaly,SG isn't "bad" guitar if such a thing exists in a first place,
700$ sounds like great deal tho, just check out condition of it. wink.gif

Posted by: kevin-riff-after-riff Apr 4 2008, 08:04 PM

SOLD! lol get it, like muris say check the condition, its important that it actually works tongue.gif anyway a sg cant go wrong, its got great neck access and its pretty light, i thought versitality depends on the pickups? but note that sgs dont have something such as floating trem which might be a little bit limiting... but 700 dollars!

Posted by: PolackHax0r Apr 4 2008, 08:11 PM

BUY IT! Wish I had friends like that!

Posted by: Fran Apr 4 2008, 08:52 PM

I guess it all boild down to 2 things:

1) Do you like SGs?
2) Is it in good condition?

If you answered yes to both of them... Go Buy NOW!! wink.gif
