Need Solo Tips

Nov 19 2007, 04:49 PM	GMC:er Posts: 208 Joined: 6-November 07	I need some suggestions on solo´s I can practice which is as hard as ~ Gun´s n Roses Paradise city intro solo, Metallicas intro solo in Fade to Black and the solo in Nothing else matters.. I can play those so I think it will be a good level to learn some solos. So please give me some pointers on where to start. Some good famous songs or some solos here on GMC. I´ve been checking around but I have not found any that I feel is right for me at the moment. Always some part that is to hard or the solo is a bit boring. I can not spend to much time learning a solo that is to hard because I´m fighting an injury too. At the breakdown where it goes clean, about 4 mins in. Iron Maiden - Aces High. These aren't really solos but they make a lot of their melodies with notes rather than chords. it's pretty fast, uses legato, interesting timing. Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark, the first solo is pretty easy. Look at any of the "in the style of" or "riffs" lessons, there's pretty good stuff in there. I'd recommend Gabriel and Pavel's powermetal lessons. Fast, but not out of reach with a lot of practice. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. Nov 19 2007, 06:35 PM	GMC:er Posts: 208 Joined: 6-November 07	Thx for the tips. I tried Gabriels Velvet revolver lesson and learned it. Pretty fun but a bit too easy. The only problem was to memorize in what order the riffs came. But any practice is good I guess Even if it´s not a challange. Makes you play cleaner playing that easy stuff too (I have tendencies wanting to play things I can not really play.) I will check the Iron Maiden stuff out too.. if it´s any help I can play 16´ notes at ~120bpm alternative picking pretty accurate for shorter periods.. 110 for longer. I got problem with playing only downstrokes, that´s when I really feel my injury. I´ve dropped maby 50 bpm in the 16´ notes playing only downstrokes and I get really tired very fast. Doing my rehab excericise though hoping I get better And yeah, some of my favourite music is blind guardian, millencolin, stone sour, Tory Amos, My chemical Romance, At the Gates and the list can go on and on and on and on and on... So I use downstrokes very carefully increasing speed very slowly. Anyways, I´ve tried aces high now. The first solo (if there are more) is too difficult. Yeah I wasn't really meaning the solo, so much as the intro for the odd timing, the first kicker with the trills, the bridge, the post chorus for more weird timing at speed. Learn the intro to Master of Puppets and begin to slowly play it w/ downstrokes and go from there. It will help both left and right hands, although I cheat and play open E and the F w/ alt picking Edit: and for left hand stamina and flexibility, learn to play Raining Blood by Slayer. I went to music gymnasium for 3 years some years ago. Thx for all advice though That pre-chorus riff was a bit tricky when you have the stringskipping to the "ending part" of that riff and you come directly from playing fast on the A-string.
