GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ I'm Back (properly)

Posted by: Artemus Apr 26 2010, 04:11 PM

It's official: I have finally submitted my thesis and my viva is in a months time.
So, in celebration I have retrieved my guitar from behind my desk where I locked it out of reach about a year ago and I started playing again!!
However, it's quite evident that a year without playing has virtually sent me back to where I started. Everything feels awkward and bending strings started to become excrutiating after an hour or so on the bluesy side of playing; my fingers are shredded to bits and blistered, and my fingernails have torn away from their nail beds slightly. Nevertheless, I'm thoroughly happy to be in pain from playing again after such a long "break".
I'm miles off from where I was in terms of ability, so don't expect any good RECs from me until I remember how to hold a plectrum again tongue.gif

Great news man!

When I joined Wisdom and started practicing with a metronome, I've felt almost the same. I had to relearn everything I knew.

Thanks a lot guys! It's reassuring to be told that my lack of guitar playing ability is but a temporary set back. What I need now is a guitar holiday; to be able to just say goodbye for a short while and lock myself away in a room, just me and my axe.. spending some quality time getting to know each other again.

Great to have you back to guitar playing! Don't worry much about current skills, you can't forget how to play guitar so you'll be there in no time.

smile.gif I just hope my fingers will last - I seem to be trying to make up for lost time. Going to have to change the strings I think - they're rusty as it is, now they're bloodstained too biggrin.gif
..dunno, perhaps they're more "metal" that way..

BTW - does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should do to "ease" myself back into stringdom? What does one do after such a long break. MTP anyone?
