Hey guys,

I just wondered.... Is fastfret a good buy? I can order it for 7.50 euros, just not sure whether it's necesary...

Cya guys,

Kaz

ps, for all dutchies, 7,50 is cheap, that's because I looked at musicallin.nl. The site is great, pay after receiving your stuff, and no shipping duties!!

I used it for a while makes the strings feel very smooth. But it seems to take some of the brightness.

It's not something to use everyday, but I recommend it to get longer life out of your strings. When you rub it on, it takes any small corrosion out of the strings, and surprisingly they sounds new again. Guitar players change strings too often I think. A set of strings should last over 3 months with this stuff.

Posted by: Emir Hot Mar 8 2009, 08:29 PM

I have one here but never used it smile.gif I'll try tonight

I usually change strings every month but if on a tour then every single day. I never risk when I am about to play on stage. Also I have agressive vibrato. Even if I don't change them they lose sustain and sometimes hard to stay in tune.

Posted by: Fran Mar 8 2009, 08:52 PM

I used fast fret until I discovered elixir strings. It made regular stringslast a bit longer. No use for it anymore smile.gif smile.gif

Posted by: Trond Vold Mar 8 2009, 08:55 PM

I tried fastfret once, but i didnt notice much improvement really. But some seems to get good use out of it.

Posted by: Stephane Lucarelli Mar 8 2009, 09:25 PM

I sometimes use fastfret to keep the strings clean and brighter, it works pretty good. But I change strings every 3/4 days.

Posted by: jer Mar 8 2009, 10:12 PM

I use it and like it.

Keeps them feeling newer longer.

Lot sure about changing the sound. I havent noticed anything.

Posted by: Skalde Mar 8 2009, 10:26 PM

I use Fast Fret every time I play guitar, but I wont pay more then 5€

You can't make a order in this shop below 20€. If you buy something else it is worth a buy.

Posted by: dusty Mar 8 2009, 10:27 PM

i use it and like it, dont know about making strigs last longer, never keep em on long enough to find out. it does however make the strings a bit slicker when you first apply it though.

Posted by: skennington Mar 9 2009, 01:27 AM

I do apply it about once a week to condition the strings and it will help the life of the fret board. As far as the product claiming to brighten the tone, don't know about that one mate. It also says it will make you play faster, well maybe for some, but don't get it on your pick or it will slow you down. smile.gif dropped mine twice today during a take after applying it. laugh.gif

You really should apply and then let it dry overnight, I just don't have the patience.

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Mar 9 2009, 01:29 AM

I use it everyday after i get done playing i wipe everything down and then apply fastfret to my strings...

Posted by: Muris Varajic Mar 9 2009, 02:09 AM

I think 7.50 euros is descent price for FF,
I use it pretty often tho. smile.gif

Posted by: leedbreak Mar 9 2009, 02:22 AM

I used it for many years but have switch to finger ease, since it is slicker. I just wanted the lubrication for my fingers, never paid any attention to if it made the strings last longer or sound better. I just wanted slickness.

Posted by: Sircraigery Mar 9 2009, 02:28 AM

I guess you could use it everyday to stop corrosion in the first place. biggrin.gif

I'm far too lazy for that, I actually don't like the slickness of it too much. I always wipe the excess with a clean dry cloth to slow them down as much as I can.

Posted by: calgary1 Mar 9 2009, 05:44 AM

Useless stuff. Adding this spray to my strings increases the mass of the string and therofore affects intonation. I play advaced country stuff where the correct pitch is paramount. This is just crap on my strings and I don't need that.

If I just want something to clean my guitar with, should I go for FastFret or for Fender Guitarpolish?

Depends totally which parts of the guitar you want to clean? FastFret in my opinion is not for 'cleaning' the strings and the Guitarpolish is mostly to let the body shine again.

Fastfret is just for cleaning strings. For body you need a polish.
Take a look , there's everything you need here: http://www.thomann.de/fr/gibson_luthiers_choice.htm

Posted by: Muris Varajic Mar 9 2009, 12:02 PM

Sometimes I use FF even for body, what a heck. biggrin.gif

I use it every once and a while and like it a lot!

Posted by: Artemus Mar 9 2009, 02:10 PM

Yeah, I use it too. I clean my strings and neck with a cloth before and after every time I play and I use FF to keep it all sleek and sheeny smile.gif

Posted by: kaznie_NL Mar 9 2009, 04:20 PM

I just want something that cleans my guitar, for strings and fretboard, and If possible also makes sure the neck is nice and slidy tongue.gif I use polish from my dad atm, and If I aply it on my neck, it becomes very smooth, but after a day that's gone..

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Mar 9 2009, 06:31 PM

Fast Fret is awesome product. It does the job great! If you have some non-coated strings, like most of them are (with elixir for example you don't need FF), it will prolong the strings sound from couple of days to a week or two, depending how much you play.

The trick with FF is to NOT wipe it off as it says on the box. Don't use the cloth at all. Just wipe the FF on the strings in the evening, after the playing, and let it stay like that overnight. In the morning the chemicals from FF will eat out all the dirt, specially from the bass (wounded) strings.

Does it work for the back of the neck?

I use fastfret a lot and it saved me a lot of money...I used to change bass strings like crazy , once they loose the bright metallic new strings sound...Then I discovered this little trick quoted above and I was able to get "new strings sound" for my bass strings..It allowed me to use same strings for months without problems and it was always able to clean them. One thing I notice though after excessive (almost daily use) for more then a month is that strings do get the "new sound" but they over time lose some mass from the sound..They do get bright , but thinner.Overall its a great product for me.I use it for string cleaning properties , I don't like the greasy feeling of it though smile.gif

Posted by: Dejan Farkas Mar 10 2009, 02:02 PM

I use it occasionally, it works great smile.gif

It is safe even for maple fretboards with finish, so it should be safe for any finish on guitar body smile.gif

Fast fret good, but its not worth the price imo.

What i do is good old Endust, or Pledge, or any furniture polish that is silicon based. IMO it does just a good of job when applied to the strings of the guitar, and it only costs like 98 cents at the grocery store.

Oh cool...Remember not to wipe it off after you apply it , rather leave the guitar overnight and see the results in the morning...Strings should sound "like" new! smile.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Mar 12 2009, 12:34 AM

It should work for the whole guitar, but there is no need. It works best for strings, so it may be wise to save it for that and use regular water for guitar.

the applier thingy is a bit weird tongue.gif It's like some very thin strings of line come out when slid through by the strings.... Is there a little cover when it comes new?

Yeah, it'll do that. Mine came with some sort of plastic tube with a lid, and a cloth...

(And now to make fun of someone's previous post hehe)

Hmm what could the cloth be for? Wait, I know! Could it be for wiping this product somehow? biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Mar 12 2009, 10:24 PM

yeah that's cotton threads, it should be too much of a problem, they come off easy, just make sure you leave it to dry.

Applier thing gets "shreaded" from use , its ok..Its made like that and just dipped in the cleaning agent...Just make sure to store it in the plastic tube container with the lid on in order not to dry out.

Well thing is that it says on the packaging 2. Wipe excess away with enclosed cloth...So many do that , but that way you only get the 30% at best of the cleaning effect and 100% of lubrication effect...But as I said , leave it over night and be amazed how much better it works in larger quantity and over longer period of time..Generally the next day there is no excess to be wiped off...It all gets absorbed or dries in the air.

Posted by: Sircraigery Mar 13 2009, 02:12 AM

I'm just buggin ya man. I didn't even read the packaging, and I rarely use it. I only use it when my strings feel grimy.

Posted by: enforcer Mar 13 2009, 11:05 AM

I used this product for about 3 years and I dont think this has a significant impact on string sound and life. It is good for improving grip on new strings though.

I know smile.gif They should throw away the cloth and cut down the product price smile.gif
