> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Hard Rock Bending And Vibrato by Ivan Mihaljevic

I don't know how I found this lesson, but it's got a great style I want to emulate. I got this take in only three tries and while I stumble a hair at the end, I don't think I'll get a better complete take. I know I can hit the whole thing without the stress of the record light, so I think it's time for another lesson! Hope you guys agree :)

Very cool Brian,

You are doing an excellent job feeling the rhythm of the initial riffing + and your bending and vibrato is very tasty.

I think you could connect the lead licks in a smoother way though, so this would be my suggested area of improvement. I would like to hear a better flow here.

Also your sound is a bit bass heavy, I would try dialing in something brighter with a tad less distortion - as I think this would inspire you to make those cool strumming scratches more audible in your take (Ivan does this great).

Keep it up to good work - you get a 7 from me!

Hey there!

Nice one. Your tone is generally quite juicy when it comes to the midrange. We can speak of some personal preferences but it's hard to complain at it smile.gif Same as Kris I would probably go for a little less low mids and lows but that's just an opinion. You play like you mean it. There are some tiny timming slips and your vibrated bends are not much consisten pitch-wise. These two spots are mainly to be worked out. Besides this it's a nice pice of playing and cool choice of lesson. Well done.

Hi mate! This lesson is a great found!

There are some elements that have room for improvements, like for example your Vibrato and Bending. Ivan's vibrato is outstanding in the lesson so it would be a good idea to dedicate some time trying to emulate it. Your vibrato tends to be irregular, sometimes it's weak, while other times it starts too early and sounds like "nervous". I also note that some of your bends are not reaching the right pitch so this technique needs some adjustment too.

Answering your question, this take obviously passes so you could move forward and start working on a new lesson.

It's a 7 for me! Keep on the good job!
