Hello Rico! I have the best result for increase my alternate picking speed with repetitive & basic exercises played over major, minor and chromatic scales. The most important thing is to practice it diary for more than an hour (the more you practice, the faster results you'll have).
The first thing that you have to practice is that first exercise that we receive in our first guitar lessons. The chromatics exercises in all its combinations (1234) (4321) (1432) (123) (134) (234) but this time with the idea of increasing your speed in your mind. Start this week practicing this exercises with the metronome and let me know how it goes. wink.gif

You know how I am 'improving' my AP ?

Search Paul Gilbert at YouTube! smile.gif Yes, its really improving mine. but note, I have gone through all 1234, 2341, stuff. I am only increasing the speed with the help of PG.

As Grabiel says, the key is to do it over and over again.

Oops sorry, I entered Gabriel's territory. Hope you guys won't mind. I just needed to share this. smile.gif

Here is another great AP exercise I found sometime earlier..

-5-6----7-------8-------------------------------------------------
------5----6-------7------8---------------------------------------
--------------5-------6------7------8-----------------------------
-------------------------5------6------7------8-------------------
-----------------------------------5------6------7----8-----------
---------------------------------------------5------6----7-8------

Try all AP starting from upstroke. This one is really good for AP, string skipping, outside picking, inside picking and so on. You can also try the same thing in reverse. from low strings to high.
