I started playing guitar when I was 12 years old. Music was a place of expression where I could vent all my feelings and emotions as a young teenager. I found my creative edge in my early 20's when I started listening more and more to country & rockabilly guitarists, I appreciated the raw unforgiving tone of the telecaster. That style of music pulled me in and pretty soon I found myself spending every hour in the day trying to play and sound like a good country artist.

As a kid growing up in the 80's I loved anything from Heavy Metal to Southern Rock. I grew up listening to bands like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, KISS, Metallica to Lynard Skynard, the Alman Brothers to name a few. Finally in my early 20's I heard Albert Lee play for the first time. Ever since then, I was sold on learning how to play country guitar. As my passion for country music grew I began listening to artists like Chet Atkins, Roy Nichols, Albert Lee, Brent Mason, Danny Gatton, The Hellecasters etc. I would pick up on these artists and learn about their influences which sort of lead me in a Jazz / Swing / R&B direction where I would learn from players like Roy Buchanan, Pat Martino, Speedy West, Les Paul and so on. Other players I admire are Steve Morse, Eric Johnson and Jeff Beck.

At GMC
There is an old saying, "The best way to learn is to teach." I'm blown away by some of the talent here at GMC. I can only hope I live up to the same standards. Not only will I share my knowledge concerning my musical experience but I also learn from many of the other instructors by viewing their lessons as well. Had it not been for the internet, I would have never heard of many of these teachers/musicians from other countries nor had the chance to collaborate with them. I've taught guitar on the internet through various sites but I haven't found a site or method that maintains the same simplicity, user interaction, quality of instructional material and as many talented instructors as here at GMC. I can't imagine how good of a player I might have turned out to be had we had something like GMC when I was teenager.
