GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Famous Instructor Request!
Posted by: Brother Woodrow Mar 6 2008, 10:13 PM
It's a great honour for us GMC members that a famous guitar player like Marcus has become our new instructor! I am also grateful for our 'old' great instructors and I do not forget what they did and do for us! But maybe you think of a well-known guitar player that you would like so much to see as an instructor on GMC? For me it would be Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys! Kris, please lead him to the GMC!

James Hetfield, Slash, Marty Friedman

Yeah, I do think Marty Friedman would be great. I know he has done many instructional guitar related products. Most of which he has done since reciding in Japan though.

James Hetfield is actually a very good guitarist. He has written most of Metallica's music. He could shred if he really wanted to.

james hetfeild is capable of; power chord-chug-e string, repeat, ive never seen him do ANYTHING special. after 2 years of playing, i can play anything he has written. anyway back on topic, my vote goes to blues-rock legend Robin Trower, an amazing guitarist and songwriter with a style all his own.

It may not be what he plays on albums but he is pretty good if he is capable of writing a lot of the solos Kirk happens to play. But anyways, yeah back on topic.

But its no big deal, i'm the same way about most things.
Imagine if we made a list together. The site would have to be shut down due to its size.

Instead of people saying I need to Google something they'll say I need to GMC something.
Hah, I'm such a dork.

Yeah, that's the reason it's almost impossible to get famous with music today. It's quite easy to get famous by doing crimes tho

I still find his riffs catchy, if not extremely technical. Pretty much like Slash. And yeah, I thinkl if James had seriously focused on guitar he could be shredding circles around Kirk.
+1 for Malmsteen, Schaffer, and Laiho

Agreed. Pretty much said the same thing. Krik is great too, he is known to be sloppy and mess up a lot but if he decided to take care of his weaknesses I think he would have success doing so.

Idk...It seems as if Kirk has just gotten worse over his career. He seriously needs to tighten up, not that he's a bad player, just not great.

That should plenty good. Out of all the guitarists listed here I think John Petrucci is the only one that has a proven successful and very popular instructional video, and that was like 1995, there is no telling how good of not only a guitarist, but also a teacher he is now. Just because they are good guitarists doesn't mean they will be good teachers. For example Vinnie Moore and Michael Romeo are 2 of my favorite guitarists, they both are bad at teaching, I learned 100 times more in Rock Discipline.
Here is Malmsteen's first lesson:
"Hey guys this is Yngwie J. from the worlds greatest band and oh if you didn't know by now I am the greatest guitarist ever and always will be" *plays harmonic minor ascending 16th notes 170 BPM* "Ok now I am going to show you some licks" *plays harmonic minor ascending 16th notes 200 BPM*. "Ok if you didn't catch that, I am going to slow it down a bit so you losers can catch up with me" *plays same thing at 180 BPM*. "Ok awesome, now while we are at it, I want to show you 10 new songs of my new album. Watch me shred!"
