Hi Ronnie
A bit complex question but will do my best regarding to my english which I haven't learned in school You're right about making aug and dim chords, adding #5 to major or b3 to minor chord. But how this works in regular scales(major or minor)? There's no aug chord in these scales, only dim on 2nd degree in minor scale or on 7th degree in major scale. But if we play harmonic minor, things are bit different. Now we have dim on 2nd and 7th degree, plus aug on 3rd degree. This is when we are following our scale and make chords from it. Everything else is alteration, sort of "out" of scale. If you have some specific example you've been playing on, just let me know, will try to explain it. Take care -------------------- Youtube

Thanks Muris, so basically there is a place for these but not in standard scales. I will not try to incorporate these in my experimentation Ohh nooo,go ahead with experiment! I just said that those chords aren't so often in basic diatonic scales. Per example, try aug on 5th degree, major or minor scale, doesn't matter. It'll give you nice jazzy sound -------------------- Youtube

LOL ok experiment is back on. I have been goofing around today with some of these and they seem to have unique expressions so that is why I posted my question. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to add a bunch of stuff that was way out of place. As always thanks again Glad you're having fun with it,you're welcome! -------------------- Youtube

It'll give you nice jazzy sound +1 for all that Muris has said. Only other bit is that to some extent augmented and diminished chords don't to some extent 'fit' the normal major and minor chord families - and maybe why hence they aren't so often in basic daitonic - but are closest to (but not really from) the dominant (cf a Dom7b9 with the dim 7th).
