Edit; song starts at 1.45

The cover is from old rock song from Turkey. "uçtu uçtu" can be translated as "flied away" representing one loses his mind. With the video, its used as a political statement to covid and what musicians are going through.

Because its all Turkish; After lead singers gf dumps him (telling to not call until he puts his life back together), he calls a pub owner for pre-payment (cause of the recent earth-quake we had here in İzmir damaged his house, he has to move) only to get a reply all pub's will be closed till further notice as he watches tv... rest can be I guess understood by watching and a final message from the band is a support for social distancing etc.

It took double the time to produce it due to the restrictions, I basically got mixes from the studio suggest/supporting needed changes in the mix/mastering from home. If it weren't the virus I'd be in the studio too and things would have progressed much faster, but this is basically the challenge of everybody these days.

Obviously I didn't understand any of the vocals, but I liked the production smile.gif

Cool smile.gif

Quick 1-2 notes; Originally instead of a 1 minute guitar solo only at the end, there were going to be sax and piano too. For "not so convincing" reasons they abandoned 2 days before studio day and he had to come-up most of the solos in that time.

The loooong yell of the vocalist (3.50) was selected among near 15 takes, no fx like melodyne or time stretch was used. Hardest part for him was to hold the note in-tune thats why so many takes were needed.

3.12; In this clip, this is a real-estate agent and it shows them (owner and agent) hyping prices of undamaged building prices after the earth-quake. Originally its a friend of ours studio garden. It's set on the Bostanlı area streets where I'm from in İzmir.

Thanks smile.gif

The guitar tone is from THU, a friedman amp and a blend of 3 cab.s (funny, one is a small blackstar cab.).

Tone when everything combined at first somehow turned out very megadeth-ish to me, specially their older albums. To tame that (aside eq'ing) we grouped all guitars and used a stereo spreader. Ideally I dislike stereo enhancers for mastering as they sort of "cloud" everything but for this approach that was just what we needed smile.gif

Oh I just remembered since you're into mastering and izotope rx; The last step was cleaning 1-2 audible clips due to the softclipping we used. If it were a CD master this wouldn't be ideal but since the release is for web-streaming (spotify release will be in 2 weeks) this gives freedom to saturate to wish then clean artifacts in a reasonable degree.

+1 on this.
Punchy mix, cool video.

*Even though it's great that many of us can work from home - it does take twice as long to get stuff done.

We got a request from the original song owner to bring-up the bass and warm-up the sound a little for Spotify release.

Wasn't really into the idea as I knew tweaking a mix has its risks as everythings balance changes and has to be mastered again, but the owner didn't request money from the band for song use so his blessing had to be honored. Rec. company gave only a day for upload so we had to finish things quick.

I'll share the spotify link when time comes. Don't really know if their fans will notice but in itself might be sort of an experiment to see reactions.

I agree about the bass, that kick drum felt very lonely in the lower regions

I honestly thought it was a stylistic choice. But I see it now. Can you share a part of the original file so that folks can try it in their mastering chain to compare it to yours? I'd sure love a go. Just a snipped or bit of the intro would be all that's needd.

Since a music company is involved I probably can't, but no one can stop people from searching as "youtube to mp3" wink.gif though the bands musical vibe to me is very Guns N' Roses, individually members are mostly into metal (pretty much the common bands we like here in GMC).

So I also thought it was a stylistic choice when I got the first draft mix, even openly commented was very Megadeth cassette years sounding and things first evolved from there. As it was near finished the band decided was too "metal" sounding for the cover so we smoothed it out which was the video's sound. Now with the 3.rd big tweak, I guess now I'm seeing the unhealthy part of the style dilemma, but based on youtube view numbers as far as I noticed everyone is happy.

PS; I can't take total credit as my role can be summed as "technical advisory" so the studio did the heavy lifting. I did offer to make the mastering but the band and engineer in the studio preferred things go joint. Normally I'm not into that workflow but with all the sound exchange cause of covid and limited time I think its was the right way to do.
