Hi lpguitar92! Welcome to your thread for Gab's Army!
Here I'll copy all the info that I have from you:
"Been playing 9 years, Have finished a 2 year diploma in guitar performance at a small college in Canada, (i'd call it more of a starter program for music) though I learned a lot. I teach guitar part time, gig with a band and get called to random pop gigs now and then.
Looking to improve my playing and chops. Right now I just started working on the Berklee method book (the 2nd one) because I always feel like I could improve on fundamentals such as triads in all 12 keys all inversions etc.
Also currently gonna try to finish 1 GMC video a week. (this being my first week, i started with Diego Budicin's funk workout). Working as well on Ross Bolton's funk instructional videos.
I love funk, R&B, jazz and blues. I want to achieve much deeper pockets, a much larger improv vocabulary, and much better technique (alternate picking, legato, hybrid) I've never been big on 'exercises' per se. Though I'd like your guidance to maybe choose songs, solos, or GMC videos, for me to work on! I'd also love to be a much better and more inventive rhythm player when it comes to comping in any style (a la Robben Ford's brilliant rhythms)
After I learn and record a video, how do I go about internalizing the information and being able to add it to the Vocab?
My goal is to be a professional guitarist with a huge skill set to be able to get called to any gig. "
Could you please share some videos of you playing? It can be a jam, some covers or a GMC lesson...

So I'm pretty covered for all the rhythm that im practicing, if we could focus on improvisation vocabulary,technique and general blues/funk/jazz/r&b lead guitar would be a great topic for us

Hi mate! Thanks for the video.
You play the first half really well while the second is ok but has some timing issues here and there. So some more days of practice focusing on timing is a good idea to keep on polishing your rhythm skills.
About your practice. We have lots of topics and lessons to work here at the site. I haven't seen you playing solos yet but I think that this could be a good lesson to start:

It's not a tricky lesson but it will make you focus on phrasing, bending, vibrato and dynamics as well as Pentatonics and blues scale. The idea is to take this week to learn the lesson, take the most of it and create a solo of you own over the backing track using the concepts shared on the lesson.
You can share two videos, one playing the lesson, and another one playing an improvisation over it.

Just realized we abandoned this page for that other topic 
Finally got the 'Drunken blues' Diego Budicin lesson recorded and ready.
it took longer tjhan expected because of those couple of speedy lines.
im moving on to Diego's Acoustic percussive ballad this week, but also how am I to extract and add those blues lines to my own improvisation? I feel like i learned alot about hybrid picking and phrasing from learning this video, but it doesnt come out in my own improv?

Hi friend!
Great job on this lesson! You can play the whole thing really well! You look comfortable with the different licks, and phrases, even with the faster ones!
If you'd like to get even more from this lesson, you could pay attention to some expressing details that Diego uses in his phrasing. I'm talking about his use of vibrato, dynamics, and articulation. How he uses elements like staccato, muting, and even his bends to make his phrasing so expressive. I don't mean that you have to emulate everything from the lesson, but paying a bit of attention to this can bring new ideas intro your own phrasing.
About incorporating this kind of stuff into your playing, there is a good way to start. You could practice playing some of the licks over the backing and working on different variations. I mean using the jam track and slowly start modifying the licks (repeating the first part, changing the last notes, using the same notes with a different rhythm, using the same rhythm with different notes), to get out of the lesson and explore your own creativity based on it. Try it and let me know what happens.
The new lesson chosen is a good idea!
