I guess time changes all things. The Shure sm7b has been a go to mic for studio and podcasting and just about everything in between for quite some time. It sounds great, very solid build, etc. The folks at SHURE have now made a new mic meant to serve the exploding podcast community specifically. This one has an app, of course, and USB C, of course, as well as XLR. So folks doing their production using a phone/tablet/etc. can now hook a very nice mic up and bam. Instant audio/video setup for recording. Works like a real mic too, XLR to interface/mixer/etc. I wonder how long it will take til every mic under the sun has optional digital connection as well as XLR just to keep it a viable product now that live music has taken such a severe down dive.

It' the go to Mic for screamers.
I tend to look at Thomann's Tbone brand versions of mics now. They do a very good job at a much lower price point -------------------- My SoundCloud

SM7B sells for around $400 USD.
MV7USB with more features as well as a more complicated build sells for $250 USD. I doubt they're really even the same mic. *A standard SM7B requires a decent mic pre to get enough level to take advantage of it's sonic attributes. If you search sm7b in "shopping" you'll notice it's often bundled with some type of line booster like the Cloudlifter. It's the nature of the beast. Companies like Blue, Samson and Audio Technica have been making XLR/USB combo mics for a few years now. This post has been edited by klasaine: Oct 27 2020, 02:13 PM -------------------- - Ken Lasaine
