GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Wiki Guitarist Top 5

Posted by: kaznie_NL Jan 30 2009, 03:08 PM

Hey Guys and Girls,

In the Guitarist Portal of the wiki, I'm going to make a nice Guitarist Top Five, and I need your votes! Please post your votes in the poll above, and it will be weekly updated in the wiki!

I have chosen the option of multiple anwsers so you can pick more, please don't pick more then three.

UPDATED, SOME EXTRA NAMES!

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Jan 30 2009, 03:10 PM

You missed Dan Rock from Psychotic Waltz! Oh noooes! tongue.gif

Posted by: superize Jan 30 2009, 03:11 PM

My favorites is not there so i cant vote tongue.gif

Posted by: kaznie_NL Jan 30 2009, 03:14 PM

I had a topic in the wiki section where people shouted some names, those were the best choices. If you can't find your favourite, please state so. If this happens a lot, this idea doesn't work, and I'll close it tongue.gif

Problem is that he'll probably get five votes where Vai can get 20, so I can add three hundred names, but only five can be chosen.

I'm merely joking smile.gif I know that Dan Rock would not be amongst such greats as these, more so not voted for, so it's no big deal wink.gif

Voted. Can't wait to see who is GMC's top 5 guitarists.. I think we have had polls before, but never a "investigation" of this scale =)

Posted by: berko Jan 30 2009, 03:32 PM

I think this is a pretty good list for the "popular" guitarists out there even though a lot of names are missing. Anyhow, my vote is there! smile.gif

Posted by: ErikEklund Jan 30 2009, 03:33 PM

Guthrie biggrin.gif

Posted by: Guitarman700 Jan 30 2009, 03:48 PM

Can we take Kirk Hammet off that list and replace him with Jeff Loomis? Please?

Where is my gilbert? sad.gif

Posted by: berko Jan 30 2009, 09:28 PM

I think it really tells something about this site where GG and EJ are in the lead of such a poll...

In a good sense that is laugh.gif

Posted by: Jenkinson Jan 30 2009, 09:53 PM

No Paul Gilbert or Marty Friedman. I cant believe I am the only one that voted for EVH.

Posted by: Pedja Simovic Jan 30 2009, 10:32 PM

Eric Johnson, SRV, EVH, Slash and Satriani smile.gif

Posted by: EricGhart Jan 30 2009, 11:59 PM

Vai is my favorite guitarist but I would have to say Guthrie is the best.

EDIT: I just happened to think where is Al Di Meola?

Posted by: Trond Vold Jan 31 2009, 12:18 AM

Thats a mighty fine list! smile.gif
I went with Gilbert, Govan, Petrucci, Loomis and Satriani smile.gif

Posted by: MickeM Jan 31 2009, 12:22 AM

"Best" in what sense I wondered so my approach was regarding who meant the most for guitar music not who's faster or more technical. Malmsteen, Hendrix, Clapton and Eddie Van Halen. Couldn't vote for neither Gary Moore nor Peter Green.

And I'm very surprised Eddie van Halen only got 4 votes so far ohmy.gif Must be the first time in the history of a guitar forum laugh.gif ...and *cough*Slash*hrm* should be proud to have made it to the list rolleyes.gif I mean, sure he's rock n roll and all but I rate f.ex Dave Navarro a lot lot lot lot higher.

Great list though, plenty of choices and I appreciate I could pick more than one - which always is almost impossible smile.gif

We have been here before but you seem to bash Metallica in 90% of your posts. I can only speak for me but it is realy getting aggravating dude.

If you don't like Kirk then don't vote for him. Loomis is great though.

Posted by: Vaialation1232 Jan 31 2009, 04:48 AM

PIcked, would like to see an Other choice maybe?? or at least greg howe on there to be alongside Govan

Well.. I think it would be kinda lame if I had a top five and number one is... TADAA: Other!!

I'm sorry if the list isn't sufficient, but I can't make a list with a hundred names, so I only picked the ones with a chance to win!

Who says im bashing metallica? i just dont think we should put kirk hammet alongside guthrie govan, John petrucci and steve vai, not even the same kind of guitar playing.
Didnt mean to offend anyone.

Posted by: Fran Jan 31 2009, 02:05 PM

Voted! Cool idea Kaz smile.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jan 31 2009, 05:01 PM

Where are players like Wes Montgomery, Pat Metheny, Paco De Lucia, Robert Johnson?

I have to say biggest names that left biggest breakthroughs are Hendrix, EVH, SRV, Satriani

Posted by: inertia Jan 31 2009, 05:29 PM

I would have voted Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck if they were on there, nice list though

Posted by: kaznie_NL Feb 3 2009, 06:22 PM

Posted by: Pavlov Feb 7 2009, 05:36 PM

I can not vote for in a list that does not include Frusciante. Sorry, Kaz. smile.gif I know it may be a bit of an odd choice, but I just love every note he makes when he touches his guitar.

I guess you guys should be happy I didn't mention Kurt Cobain. tongue.gif

Sorry bout that, I love frusciante myself tongue.gif I just couldn't include all guitarist, the list would be immense tongue.gif I tried to pick the ones who have a chance at winning. And here at GMC I don't think Frusciante would have made it to the Top 5, although I would've like that tongue.gif I wrote the huge Wiki article on him wink.gif

UPDATE: Satriani has taken the lead in front of Vai!!

You should make this 5 top rock guitarist, and make another poll for other guitarist that play jazz and world music.

Posted by: kaznie_NL Jun 28 2009, 10:09 AM

We have a big switch, Eric Johnson has gone below the top 5, and now we have three no. 5!! Pls vote, Hendrix, Petrucci and Paul Gilbert all have 34 votes!

Posted by: Kapto Jun 28 2009, 11:11 AM

The one on the list would be J. Petrucci
Then I'd go for:

Michael Romeo
Steve Morse
Ritchie Blackmoore

Petrucci is actualy No. 4, because he was on the list for a long time. Now the one who gets one extra vote, immediatly goes to 4th place, and Petrucci sinks to 5th.

Posted by: kaznie_NL Jul 5 2009, 10:33 AM

It's still not cleared up, Hendrix or Gilbert? Who'll be numer five in our Guitarist Top 5? It's featured here: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Portal:Guitarists

Posted by: kaznie_NL Jul 5 2009, 03:35 PM

Paul Gilbert is no No#5

Posted by: kaznie_NL Sep 27 2009, 11:11 AM

John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert both have 39 votes, cast your vote to decide who should have place four and who should have place five!

Posted by: Kristian Hyvarinen Sep 9 2010, 06:11 PM

Haha, I'd chosen Mr. Lavendell, if he was there... biggrin.gif

My favourite guitarist is in my school, and I like his playing the most. However, I gave 5 votes (tried to give only three, but ended up voting for 8 guys. biggrin.gif ) Satriani, Vai, Hendrix, Slash and Gilmour got my votes.

Posted by: Boson Sep 9 2010, 06:40 PM

There is no such thing as a "best" guitarist!

These are all good guitarists and indeed some are great but there are many others not included who are equally good or great How can the list not include Peter Green, Paul Kossoff, Tomitito, Segovia, David Graham,Joe Bonemassa, Les Paul, ......

Pointless poll as it is all so subjective.

My opinion on best guitarist changes from day to day depending on what I am listening to.

Jimi Hendixxx for all the time guitarist !!

Juninho Afram, from Brazil, is the best guitar player.
He play the guitar in band Oficina G3 - Christian Rock Band.

He is a true worshiper of the living God!

Posted by: michaelsfo Sep 23 2011, 08:52 PM

While I certainly appreciate the classics like SRV and Hendrix. There are many guitarists that are alive today making great new music. Like Nguyen Le, Marc Ribot, John Abercrombie and Bill Frisell.

Please add these guys to your list.

For me, it has to be the great Vinnie Moore (seen below as special guest to legend Peter Frampton last month)
Vinnies combination of Melody, Feel and Speed, along with amazing song writing talents and pioneering instrumental works forged in the 80's makes me wonder why he wasn't on the list. Having lifted UFO for the past 10 years, Vinnie continues to demonstrate his amazing fretwork both live and on record. Here is my vote for Vinnie Moore.
