Hey guys I have been doing quite a lot of experimenting this week with cubase and reaper. First I had to figure out how to get my pedal connected to the computer and then get everything installed and working properly. I am VERY new at all this, and after a few hours of trial and error I managed to get a decent recording of Jerry Arcidiacono's Adeste Fideles lesson, which I have uploaded(Hopefully it works, I'm new at this as well). This was recorded in cubase and I had the option to save the file as either a windows media file or a WAV file. I saved it as a WAV file but I was wondering which is better to use? Also any tips for better sounding recording are welcome, as well as any advice and pointers about the guitar playing and tone. I should also say that the ending lick in this recording is nowhere near what Jerry did in the actual lesson, quite frankly I'm still working on learning the lick he did, and for the sake of getting a decent recording I used one I was more comfortable with. smile.gif

when you say peddle ,do you mean rp,and if so ,did you have a problem not being able to turn off the sound of the rp giving a direct signal to your speakers

I thought your take was real good ,the lead sounded alittle low but it sounded like it was apart of the song ,unlike mine that seem to sound out of the song

Mr Strat ! Sounded good to me.. you decided to go for a more rock n roll type ending ! cool.gif Jerry's end lick is great as well though so yes, I would learn that one too smile.gif

wav is a better quality of sound but it is a larger file. I always export finished tracks as wavs from Cubase because I'm unable to export to mp3's. I got round this by downloading a free mp3 converter called Winlame. Whenever I need to upload an mp3 to GMC for whatever reason (this is also preferable because it's smaller than a wav) then I just click 'add file' in Winlame and convert the little babies !

Jstcrsn- My pedal is an RP 500 from digitech, and actually I had trouble getting the signal to come through the computer speakers, It was coming through the headphone jack of the pedal itself, and when I unplugged the phones from the back of the pedal I didn't get any sound at all through the computer speakers, so I had to record with headphones. I agree it sounded a little apart from the song, and hopefully the more I record the better I will get at making it sound integrated. When I recorded this the sum total of my recording knowledge consisted of how to set the left and right paremeters of the song, and I learned that the same day biggrin.gif

Ben- Yeah I'm working on learning Jerry's ending for the song, I can actually play it but not well enough to record yet, so I opted for a more Rock n roll/Blues ending since that is an area I'm comfortable with. Regarding winlame, I was using Reaper the other day, and I believe it mentioned this program, and recomended it for converting files, and with your recomendation as well I definately will be downloading it!

Quick question, would a recording of this type be suitable for an audio collab? I believe that Sinisa is doing a Hard Rock Audio Collab and I was thinking of joining, but wanted to make sure that files of this type can be used? smile.gif

Yes, you could export either as a wav or an mp3. To make it easier on Sinisa, mp3 would probably be preferable as it will take up les space.

You would need to provide 2 different mixes. One with the solo over the backing like the one you have here, and one with the solo only and the backing muted smile.gif

Ben-thanks for the answer to the question about Sinisa's collab, I downloaded Winlame and figured out how to convert files, with that program it is extremely easy!

Ivan- Glad you liked the tone I used for the recording, I used my Gibson Les Paul and just kind of experimented with the pedal till I got a sound that was close to the orginal tone used in the lesson. It actually sounds better through my Amp, but I can only record through a computer at the moment. smile.gif
