Hey

Well i recieved my baby (a Gibson lp standard) a month ago. and as i am into alot of heavy music like blind guardin, metallica, tyr, amon amarth, dimmu borgir and so on. I am considering to put some emg 81-85 into my gibson.
So here are my questions:
How good are the emgs? i mean the gibson humbuckers are actually awesome.
Does it take down the value of the guitar? is it easy to switch over to the old pickups if i should need to?
And last but not least, what are your personal meanings about this.

Thanks for all the help guys and girls smile.gif

Btw learning the pentatonic scales on GMC helped me evolve more in 1 month as a guitar player, then i have the last ten years so thank you guys smile.gif

And another thing, why cant i upload pics to my profile???

Take care, Bact to practice cool.gif

I have emg 81/85 and i love them... best thing going in my opinion... as far as losing value in your guitar, who cares if it does or doesnt... its all about making you happy with your guitar, youre the one playing it.

I love both the Les Paul pickups and EMG 81/85 sets. It all depends on what you want to play. If your into metal, then i dont see much harm in changing. You can always exchange back to the old ones later, but changing between active and passive pickups is a bit more job than changing passives with another pair of passives.

Some will probably say it would be dragging value down, but i also know people that just love Les Pauls with EMG's and believe it enhances the guitar.

Those EMGs are active so you may have to route for a battery compartment....I'd imagine that'd degrade the value of the LP.

Well I have the set as well and love 'em. Some will say there a bit mudy due to output but its all in what you like. Zakk Wylde seems to like them in his Les Paul's and at custom shop retail of $4400.00 I hardly think they will bring down the value of your guitar.

Nah, you can stuff the battery inside the usual compartment with the volume/tone knob wires.

nice choice EMG active pickups .i think its better to change the both pickups to EMG because
it has a high volume so if you change only one pickup you will get unbalanced volume between the EMG
and the other pickup whats coming with Gibson

I think for my next guitar I'll get some EMG pickups... I played with them and sounds really good, but of course it depends of your own technique.

Adding the EMG'S is for sure no mistake, a Les Paul equiped with an EMG 81 turns into a weapon! wink.gif You don't have to worry about the battery, there is enough room in the compartment and of course you can always change back to the original Gibson Pickups (which are awesome too) if you don't like the sound of the EMG's.
