Audio Usb Cable, Is It That Important?

The driver is installed but I'm having issues. Even when I go to system>device mgr>controllers, I see the driver when the USB is connected, when I unplug it, it disappears. Don't quite understand that. The software "connection test" tells me "Can't connect to the instrument, make sure it's connected properly" The manual say's to use a quality instrument usb cable.
