Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Satriani Made Easy - Rock by Ben Higgins

I enjoyed this lesson quite a lot. I listen to it over and over, the original and my take. The lower notes had a strange vibration that I couldn't figure out how to fix. I had to do countless video takes to get the right one. Nevertheless, I learned a lot with this lesson. Thanks! https://youtu.be/YcfWDPSLYsU

Nice!

You do a very good job here. Timing is very close to Ben's and def qualifies as musical. The noise from low notes likely comes from a setup problem with your guitar - a suggestion would be to have a luthier look at it. It could be very easy to fix.

But there is one thing preventing you from sounding a like a pro - and it is spelled vibrato.

If you built you vibrato up gradually, from soft to intense AND made sure the bending motion was coming from your arm muscles and not finger muscles - you could be rocking out with the best of them! Sounds tempting? Go for it!!

Well done, you get an 8 from me!

Hi Oscar!!

Great job here! You can play the whole lesson very well. Everything sounds tight and well tuned. There is only some room to get more from Ben's feel. His approach to vibrato, slides, and dynamics is very tasty here (as always), so playing along with him, and maybe adjusting a bit your tone to make it have more sustain can be positive to get the most from this lesson.

By the way, this is a GREAT take. It's an 8!

Hey there!

The lower vibration you mention sound more like an interrpution of open strings than a anything else. Make sure that the strings you are not using at the moment, are being touched by any part of any finger. For example you can use tip of your index finger to touch the string above the one you play, while the botom of the same finger can rest on all the strings below. sound easy but takes some time to get used to. It usually takes twice as much work to keep things clean than just to fret the note.

You need to work on your vibrato motion because it is not consistent. You make some random pulsing down and up but with different depth and speed....and what''s worse - different dirfections. When you analyze most of top notch players you will find they mostly you down-pulsing on the vibrato (besides e1 string). It means you need to pull the string and then let it go back to it's default position. This way the note alwasy goes back to a perfect pitch point which makes it all generally sound more in tune.

There are a few of my lessons on vibrato and unwanted noises:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Muting-Unwanted-Noise/

Maybe you'll find some visual feedback that will clarify what I'm writting about.

These are most critical things I've noticed. Have a great Christmas time! smile.gif
