GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Stairway To Heaven Flamenco/ Wind Insturment Cover

Posted by: iamblackmo Sep 11 2009, 02:08 PM

I am sitting in the school coffee shop and I hear the breakdown of the Stairway to Heaven. It stood out. Then, I started listening closely and realized that this must have been a full instrumental cover of the song. The guitar solo was incredible and it had this feel and depth that I don't get from the Zeppelin version of the track. It was loaded with brass wind instruments, the guitar sounded to be classical.

This was an interesting cover to hear. I hope to find if they keep a track listing and I will share my find.

Sounds cool. Rodrigo y Gabriela also did a nice stairway cover:

Just curious. How is it Flamenco? Flamenco-esque perhaps but not Flamenco. Purists around the globe are pulling their hair out right now as we speak! Nah. Not really! biggrin.gif

VERY cool cover! I always thought that Stairway to heaven is one of the forbidden songs, a song that must not be touched, covered, altered, interpreted... but I like this version rolleyes.gif

I'm not an expert - my daughter understands flamenco much better than me - but I think the issue here is that flamenco has a very different rhythm to rock and the emphasis of the beat is not the same. Some of the R+G recording does this but not all of it. Like you say - and to me - it's more flamenco-esque than flamenco...

I actually thought that it is not only forbidden to touch but also forbidden to play. As beautiful of a piece as it is, it is the butt of too many guitar store employee jokes, isn't it? This is a neat version. I enjoyed it.

Well, one thing is for sure, if you go to a music shop here in Germany, you grab a guitar and start to play that song you will get kicked out immeidately and be banned for lifetime tongue.gif

There are some songs that should be forbidden smile.gif It can be a real pain to go to Musikmesse in Frankfurt when you are bombed with 3 billion versions of Enter Sandman, Highway to Hell and Stairway to heaven, all at the same time... a pure nightmare wink.gif
