It may also be because the file is GP 5.2 and your program 5.0...

Welcome Mike. Guitar Pro should recognize the file. Do you have the software installed? You can use Power Tab editor as well.

I think that what DeepRoots said will help. There are newer versions of Guitar Pro files, so if You have an older version of the program, it will be unable to open it ( the new version file ). Tux is free, legal, and can open all versions of guitar pro files, those newest also.

QUOTE ("Steve Vai")
Start by playing something - a bend, a riff, a scale, a song - very slowly; if you make a mistake, start over; do this over and over, until you can play it flawlessly - and I do mean flawlessly - many times in a row. Next, gradually increase the tempo. Eventually you'll be flailing like a madman.

Welcome to GMC mate. Indeed if you have an older version of Guitar Pro software it is best to upgrade it, or try some free alternatives.

Hi and welcome to GMC....

If your GP version is lower like the file you will open! so it doesn't work. But if you have the same version try to set all options to default.. and start the program as Guitar Pro
