Circuit City in the USA is going out of business.
I went to the store last week-end, but didn't find any great deals yet.
They are slowly liquidating their inventory...

If any of us sees any good deals in their store, maybe we could share them here!
Right now, I only saw some 10percent mark downs on stuff.. Surely the markdowns will be more and more as they approach closing...

Unfortunately the deals never really end up coming. Firms buy out these stores and try to get as much as they can under the guise that the store going out of business = crazy deals. Most of the inventory end up going to other store chains or sent back to the distributer for debt owed...

I've been through this.

Where you can find some good deals is demo stuff, open box stuff, floor models, etc...

But new in a box, current inventory is rarely more than normal sale prices.

In my experience anyway.

Or they'll mark it up to full MSRP and then have a blowout 30% off!!! Which in the end isnt more than 10%.

Ah, you're probably right.
That does make sense...
I did see some cool prices on open boxed items, I might go back this week-end and let you know if I find anything. :-)

A lot of people are turned off by demo models. Open box stuff.

Thats where you really find the gold. Who cares if its opened and has some use on it. Its guaranteed. Same warranty. The warranty is thru the manufacturer anyway, not the store thats closing.

Scratches? Are they where you even notice? Wouldnt it get a scratch or two on it at your place too?

Missing a manual? Download the pdf from the website....

Find something you like, talk them down on it. They need to get rid of the demo stuff. All they can say is no. You'd be surprised what you can get if you ask.

I did 10 years in retail. (Audio King/Ultimate Electronics)

I wouldnt buy a demo/used camcorder, but most other stuff is pretty safe. Really, it just sits on a shelf.... Often they dont even plug the stuff in....

TVs can have a lot of hours on them but is that bad? Nowadays the panels are designed to last 20000 hours or more.

If the tv was on from 10am til 9pm 7 days a week on display thats 4000 hours if it sat there a year. There is still almost 8 years of life left in it if you watched it 6 hours a day.

If you are losing 20% of the life of the set due to its demo use but saving 50% of the price that seems ok to me.

When the closed down the one by our house, my daughter bought her boyfriend a in-dash DVD player that was open box. They thought they were getting an awesome deal. I found the same item on the internet for $20 more brand new in a box (w/ remote).

YMMV.

Oh yeah, the net changes the ballgame totally. You gotta do your research.

I'm saying that vs other brick & mortar stores, usually the BIG discounts are on open stuff.
