I find it really interesting to see just HOW personal music is, and how unique each one's influences are -- even if there are similarities. I find I like the styles that can bring a lot of emotion out in me... I guess the tone would be sadder, darker, more powerful styles if I think about it... hehe... I'm surprised it's not more populated. Ironically, there is a big difference between (1) my influences and (2) the guitarists that I like. In (1) is the music I like and the style I want to make: Nightwish Delain Within Temptation Sirenia Lacuna Coil Draconian But I would struggle to point out any memorable (to me) guitar playing from these bands. Sure - the guitarists are great, but they tend to fit more into an overall musical landscape - epic and symphonic - rather than being at the forefront. But in (2) are the great players I love to listen to, but I couldn't say they strongly influence my own playing or direction: Mark Knopfler Tommy Emmanuel Marty Friedman Kirk Hammett Joe Satriani Yngwie Malmsteen Slash (G'n'R era) The only real crossover there would be Yngwie, because I do love and am influenced by the neo-classical feel and I'm grateful for the tutorials that Marcus Lavendell has available here!
