Hello guys, I'm Mauro from Italy. I'm 18 and I play guitar since 2006. smile.gif I'll get straight to the problem: lately I don't know what to practice. I think my level is around intermediate/advanced, and I'm probably on that period where most of the teenagers are into that kind of shred stuff like Vai, Satriani, Petrucci, Malmsteen and all those well-known virtuosos. smile.gif Anyways there are so many lessons to choose from and I really have no idea about what to practice to improve my technique/theory and all that stuff. I have tried some of Muris stuff, but I gave up because I tought it was just too difficult for me. I have also tried a lot of other lessons, but most of the time I gave up after reaching half-lesson... sometimes because I tought it just was too hard, sometimes because I had a lack of motivation and so on... I feel like I just can't stick to anything. Do you have any tips? Thanks a lot. smile.gif

Hi there friend! I'm afraid that most important is the attitude and motivation. For me personally best results were achieved while I was stuborn and fought with things I wasn't able to play as long as it had to take. Sometimes I left some lesson like You did but went back to it after some time.

If You'll play lessons that are possible to learn quickly than this mean those lessons are AT YOUR LEVEL and doing things at Your level won't bring You more skills. We get skills by doing harder and harder and even harder stuff learning how to control some bacis mechanisms. Also...If something just won't work for too long that it's signal that You have to analyze each movement and hand positions cause it's usually the main problem smile.gif Can You how us some of Your playing ?smile.gif Cheers!

Hello Mauro!
Without knowing you personally, it seems like a similar problem many people have. It can be tough at times, but try to be persistant. Studies show that persistance more than anything will make you reach your goal. Natural talent, intelligence, and all that stuff doesn't really matter as long as you have patience(several studies show this). While this is all well and good you have to really ask yourself, what do you want to be able to play in 5 years? How do you want to sound? Maybe it's time for you to start composing your own music to have something which you have a stronger connection too?

These are just my initial thoughts, I would like to hear more about this so we can help you!

Best regards!

Hi Mauro! This is a normal feeling an as everybody said here, you have to keep going! This is the moment when you have to work even more than when each hour of practice could b noted in your playing. It's true that we have lots of lessons here, but the advantages are that these ones are very well organized by style, genre, technique an level. Also we (the instructors) are here to help you so if you can provide some videos of you playing we can give you feedback an suggestions about what lessons you could work.

Hey Mauro - the guys are right smile.gif You have landed in the perfect place for developing yourself both as a guitar player/ musician and as a human being as well - so please, by all means, share some of your recordings with us and we can proceed to help you progress from that point.
