GMC Forum _ Recording _ Line 6 Pod Recording

Hey, since I've seen a lot of people using the line 6 pod here at GMC, I was wondering if we could sticky a thread where everyone explains how they do they're recordings with the pod.
I wanted to do this, because I'm having trouble with my PODx3 and I think it's just cause I suck at setting up signal chains.
I'm talking about detailed descriptions here 
Compression settings, gain, eq, bass, mid, treble, etc...
This would be a HUGE help for me, and I'm sure others

Well this is my setup for recording with the POD X3 Live.
Basically, I take the USB cord that came with the POD And plug it straight into my computers USB Port (Must be USB 2.0 Port). But, you will need the POD drivers for recording to work, which you can get using the Line 6 Monkey, http://www.line6.com/software/index.html Plug the POD in via the USB Cord, then open up Line 6 Monkey, and you can install the drivers.
Once you have installed the drivers, you open up your recording software (i use Reaper), select 'Options'. and go to preferences. Under 'Audio' there should be a section labeled 'Devices'. Make sure you are using ASIO Drivers under Audio system, When you have selected ASIO, right below 'Audio System' will be a section labeled ASIO Driver, it should be a drop down box, and if the installation went well the POD Drivers, you should see ASIO POD X3 Live, Choose that one.
Wha-la, recording is now as simple as arming the tracks and hitting the record button

Ok....That sounds promising do you have the pocket pad or do you have something else because i was thinking about buying the pocket pad

Yeah, I got as far as setting up my DAW with the POD ASIO etc...but now, when tracking guitars, they sound sound a little fizzy.
Thanks tho, I think my first post was a little vague.
Look at it this way, I have the sound in my DAW and I have drumtracks...what do I do now? :S

The punk drums, which I will program, and the powerchord riffs with the octave chords (lead guitar) over it.
I'd like to know how to track, mix and master similar to this sound, to start with.
Eventually, I'd love to start recording solos etc...similar to Avenged Sevenfold.

I have the POD X3 Live, i have no experience with the pocket pod, but have heard nothing but good about it.

Don't get the pocket pod for recording!
The pocket pod can't be used for recording, only to play using different tones. You can customize them, and download tones, but it can't be used to record!
If you want the pod only because you need something to record on your computer check the other (more expensive) pods, or take a look at Toneport, it's a devide made also by line6, that is used to record on a computer using different tones.

^Yes i should of asked if you wanted to use it for recording, if you want to record, try the toneport, POD XT Live, POD XT, POD X3, or POD X3 LIVE.

While we're on the subject, i think i asked this before but couldn't find the post. My recordings seem to sound a lot quieter then what i actually play what could be the cause of this? I only realized this when i tried recording the first riff from the GMC collaboration, and compared it to the actual song. The sound was the same after having used 3 takes doubled, but was much quieter

Just say that POD is a great tool in my recording routine, and it sounds awesome !! of course there are lot of another options, but those are no as cheaper as pod is !

It's recorded with POD XT LIVE conected with the USB cable. I didn't added any estra effects in the guitars, all the reverb, delay compresion, etc is from de POD.

Yeah, man, I love your recordings. This is the kind of thing I want. I'd like to know how to get an awesome rockin' tone from this thing, because you guys sound HUGE!

Thanks you !!! remember that if you have the POD I can upload some tones (well in fact I have uploaded some, but I can upload all my tones if you want). BTW the most important is that you find your own sound. Maybe my presets are too distorted for you (I play with lot of gain, presence and treble...)

Yeah i'm trying to make my own preset but its hard because nothing i make i like :/ And when i think i like something i'll come back to it later and it sucks. So i dunno i guess its going to take a long time. Anyway know the answer to my question above?

mmm I'm not so sure... can you give mor info about your recording ?? you use a POD, that's ok, and what conections are you using ?? a USB cable or a "line in" or a "mic imput" ?? and the problem is that the track that you recorded was so quiet, isn't it ??

Yeah basically i record through the USB of my computer from the USB slot from POD. I record using cubase and yeah the problem is its a bit too quiet. The problem is if i turn it up in cubase it clips so i'm not quite sure what i'm doing wrong here

Well, if your track is so quiet you can "normalize" it (I hope cubase have some effects, so search this one) or also "compress" the sound. you can use a limiter/compressor (I use the "hard limiter" effect in my Cool edit).

Heard of these but not really used them that much i'll look into it. I should really get my sound sorted first though. I find its easy to get a good sound with my amp but with my headphones its a lot harder, different sounds but still nothings really jumped out at me yet for being a good sound. But then doubled it'll sound better so maybe i'm just being fussy
