GMC Forum _ Introduce Yourself ! _ Hello from Philly, PA USA area!!!

Posted by: Ironhead85 Feb 15 2007, 06:59 PM

About me!!! Howdy, I am Chris. Incase your wondering what the hell is Ironhead, I am a Harley Enthusiast from right outside of Philadelphia, PA USA and I have a 2006 Dyna Wide Glide. I have been a guitarist since I was about 15 or 16, and I am 21 now as of Dec 27, 2006 - and no I do not get screwed on presents biggrin.gif . I have been with my gf for over 3 years. I do not consider myself good based on the fact that I have been playing for 5 years. When I first started it was because my brother borrowed a friends guitar and he never took it back so I picked up it up and learned the 2 main chords to what I consider one of the easiest songs ever, Horse with no name. I was hooked. But I never got serious, I made a bad habbit of not caring AT ALL about theory and scaled and such and I learned RIFFs of my favorite metallica songs, and for some reason always skipped the solos and that stuff. I am all self-taught. But recently my older brother, age 29, discovered he has an awesome voice, and my best friend is a drummer so we started a band, I have gotten so serious. In the past I would stop playing guitar for months at a time cause I'd get frustrated. I never took into consideration that I was practicing all wrong.

My tip for newbies, if you have musican friends, start a band and set a goal to play a small club. I have never worked so hard. Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays my band practices songs from Metallica, Shinedown, STP, Skynyrd, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Pearl Jam, and basically any soft rock/ hard rock/ heavy metal we like. So in short over the last few months I have progressed at an insane rate. But I am stumped, I cannot improvise or shred for the life of me, that is where GMC comes into play. I picked GMC cause Kristofer reminds me of my friends and myself, we are all retarded (that is a compliment hahahaha), I just mean we are ourselves, we are crazy and you know what.....screw what people think cause we have fun.

IF ANYONE LIVES NEAR PHILLY AND PLAYS BASS EMAIL ME TO JOIN A BAND OF INTERMEDIATE MUSICIANS.

I own two Verizon Wireless Authorized retailers, and we constantly have slow points. So I get in about 1 hour of practice a day at work, 5 days a week. Not to mention 2.5+ hours 3 times a week with band.

My Gear:
Fender Strat (Mexican) - Old and abused, my first.
Epiphone Acoustic Guitar- cheap as hell.
Jackson RR-5 - Freaking cool looking, but I hate Floyd Bridges
My Baby - Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded Wood (Awesome Tone - Awesome Price)
Fender MS-2 (Belt Amp for practice at work)
Fender Stage 100 (Practice AMP POS)
B-52 ATA-100 (All Tube tri-rectifier half stack, amazing sound for only $1000)
Boss Tuner, Boss Delay DD-3, Boss Flanger, Boss EQ, Bad Horsie Wah
SKB Pedal Board

For New at Shreding, would you suggest starting at The Pentatonic Scale lessons??

hey hey ironhead!!
harley's rock... there is no doubt there! i would definitely recommend checking out the beginner lessons even if you're a little beyond that point just to make sure there are no habits you need to break... trust me it helped me and i've played for 9 years. once you know for sure your picking and at least the Am pentatonic scale check out the next lessons beyond that working with the 5 boxes within the scale and your position shifting... make sure you know these scales inside and out!!! otherwise it's gonna be constant guessing games. kris will definitely explain all of this too you... you'll end up getting your own routine and progressing at your own rate. it's the best way to learn! remember to take your time on each lesson! i've only been a member for a few days and i want to know it all but everything takes practice and time.

goodluck man!!! philly's a cool city. I live in pittsburgh myself so at least we're both PA guys!

Hey, we have two Kansans here, so we are tied. You a Pittsburgh fan Buck? This is what ESPN said this week about Pittsburgh..."sort of Kansas Lite in the sense that Pitt looks good for awhile and then does something inexplicable, like getting smoked at home by Louisville." They called you "Kansas Lite". How humiliating. For anyone in Europe reading this, I am talking college basketball. Kansas is known for only three things, Basketball, The Wizard of Oz, and the fact that the state was created in the year 4004 BC. Penn is known for the Founding Fathers, Quakers, and chocolate bars.

Bucks County, PA here.

My business is in NE Philly though!

I like cars better than bikes, but it's all good.

At 43 I am very much in to shredding and hope to learn fast.

If you're half decent I can get you booked on some of the bills we play. It would help if you break stuff and aren't shy about kicking the occasional person that gets hurled at you.

buckjones -

I have had MANY fast cars, they are awesome, but always get me in trouble.
I recently broke the tranny on my 2006 Vette at ATCO, traded it in on a 2007 automatic Vette, less chance of breakage and more consistent times.

Fast guitars for now on, in fact I just traded in my Jackson and my SG on Sunday for an ESP Viper 400 with active EMGs, man this thing sounds MEAN!
