What Do You Guys Think Of The Line 6 Spider Jam Amp?

I have heard criticism that they don't sound as good as a tube amp...but honestly, I am not good enough yet to notice! I am thinking about selling my Pod 2.0 and getting a Spider Jam amp. Just looked at the specs and it sounds great with its jamming tracks recorded by Bissonette and others!Mind you if its going to be used at home you might as well jam along to tracks on your pc! Nov 8 2008, 05:42 PM	GMC:er Posts: 2.361 Joined: 27-April 07 From: London,ont	i was hanging out a local guitar shop during the summer and they were just putting 1 of these on display, so me and a couple of guys were standing around watching and asking questions, it seemed to be a neat little idea (which is what i think of all Line 6 stuff).. The tone like most Line 6 stuff was pretty rubbish, but play on a clean setting with effects looked like fun, the looping was cool and it didn't sound to bad by its self, the only time you notice tone problems is when you match it up against another amp and since this amp will probably just be used for practice and fun i won't rule against it You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. This is not their biggest concern. So if tone is not your biggest concern, I don't see why you ca't get this amp if it has all the features you need mate. I would surely like the tone of a Fender Twin Reverb...and know that I won't have it with this amp. BUT, the Spider Jam has so many unreal features for playing. The looping...the drum tracks...etc. It seems like the possibilities are endless for a guy like me that doesn't have other people to play with. p.s. Nov 9 2008, 04:04 PM	GMC:er Posts: 316 Joined: 4-August 08 From: blighty	You know what sunshine you could thank people for trying to help you out,not just the instructors who turn up!there paid too!lol And for the record I still have a Pod Pro,A line 6 Flexytone combo,A line 6 Vetta 2 head and speakers,marshall poweramp with digitech2120's rack system with marshall speakers,carving belair combo,messa boogie dual rectifier head,Hughes and Kettner Switchblade head.(used to own a very old Fender twin reverb and a marshall superlead head that found its way to me from someone who got it from a Meatloaf tour;)and other preamps(solando,art sgx2000) From my experience with using line 6 products from 1998/1999 to the present day and my same experience with tube heads I can easliy say that Line 6 compares very well tone to tone with tubes amps-no matter the price!In fact the line 6 Vetta 2 amp head is a VERY expensive head! There is a lot of bad talk about line 6 from players who havnt owned them,and might not have even played them!Tube amps are seen as the realy deal by many(and they kind of our to be honest)but I can tell you I have known many great players out there who have recorded with Pod Pros and other solid state preamps and fooled the tube purists into thinking their playing a tube amp with glowing power tubes!when they find out its emualted rather than the real deal then their comments change The Vetta range by line 6 is realy good,its not perfect but its not worse than tube amps either! The only spiders I have tried have been in a shop,I wouldnt buy one as there so cheap anyway-but I wanted to hear what they sounded like so Plugged in and was then shocked at how bad it sounded. The only plus this spider jam model has is the backing tracks with it,recorded with real instruments by great musicians.If one is going to use that to create a one man band type situation,busking or whatever then It has potential.If your only playing at home as you have no band then there is no reason to buy it for that reason alone.there are so many backing tracks online,you dont need your amp to do it when your PC speakers can churn out thousands of tunes for you to jam over You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. Although Line 6 gear is not about tone very much, they sure know what they are doing, and they products are well designed. If you need a practice amp that is packed with features for jamming and modeling, it can be the amp you are looking for. For me, I don't like the sound of it, but we are all different, and have different preferences. I think the best is to go to the store and try it extensively - for an hour, and plug into 2 other reference amps to compare. This is what I would do mate if I were buying a guitar amp. Don't have any concerns about guitar center (or other guitar stores) they are all available to help you buy something.Bringing your guitar when buying an amp is a must and they will surly let you do that!! Take as much time as you want when trying it out (don't mind the shop attendants - they are very happy when they have a possible customer).So don't feel rushed , just try few amps throughout so you can make a smart decision what to buy.
