He Shoots He Score!!!!! smile.gif History is pesky that way. The military tends to keep faith with their oath and keep faith with whomever is paying them, as a result as you pointed out, they have pretty much always come down on the side of the folks doing the paying, e.g. the govt.

There is a sort of patriotic fantasy in prepper communities online, that bands of militia with small arms will thwart the greatest military on the planet and inspire them to come over to the militia. I hope we dont have to put this to the test, again, as we have done already several times and it's gone bad each and every time.

In the 243 years of there being a 'United States of America', the military has never sided with an insurgency. And in fact, every time there has been a rebellion or uprising or revolt (about 2 dozen if you include the civil war and the genocide of the Indians), the military has obeyed orders from our nation's capital ... every time.

This is an abstract conversation to be sure smile.gif "What if" small arms vs drones.

If all of these anti immigrant folks with guns start acting collectively, the govt will start dealin with them like ISIS. This could lead to a serious erosion in our civil rights in the name of security. This is what I really hope does not happen. sad.gif

Who said anything about anti immigrant folks? I was speaking of pro 2nd amendment folks which could potentially be 100 million people or more.

Not yet they haven't, but the circumstances may well be very different if it were to come to that, none of us really know so there is no need to call anyone speculating about the possibilities of what could happen in such a conflict as "delusional". That goes for you as well, Todd. No need for insults.

The 2nd amendment greatly diminishes the possibility of our government from becoming tyrannical. The mere possibility of the massive resistance that could happen is enough to keep government in check.

The Texas shooter was certainly one of the folks I'm talking about. Anti Immigrant and very pro 2nd Amd per his ownership of assault style "hunting rifles" used to hunt people of color.

My apologies if I insulted you. That certainly was not my intent. I was in reference to kens point that every single time in our history that we have for reference, the govt was against the insurgency. If we use history as a guide, there is no evidence of any kind that I can see which points even remotely to the idea that the military would side with the militia. Thus, the remoteness of said event does seem to be more of a delusion of wishful thinking (I called it a delusional Idea in my post) than a real potential outcome. I'm not trying to imply that you or anyone else is "delusional", just that the idea that the military would join the militia is a delusion based on historical pattern.

The idea that the 2nd amd keeps the govt in check is certainly a popular idea and indeed what the framers intended it to be, a final check against tyranny. That's why it's in there and that's what it's really for. To allow for Militia to overthrow a corrupt govt. It's the final check/balance in the hands of the people should the govt go beyond what the people find acceptable. Were this to actually happen, said people would be labled "Terrorists" and be declared "Enemy Combatants" by the govt. At that point, we have become SYRIA and the govt is going to start killing it's own citizenry. This is the nightmare scenario. I don't think there is a remote chance of this ever happening. But I guess we will see smile.gif

No worries, I'm a big boy and I can take it. The military is made up of people just like you and I. It is not delusional to consider that some or even many, even those in command positions in the military would disobey orders and take an opposite side given the right reasons and circumstances.
Ken's assertion that the military has obeyed the orders from the nations capital every time is incorrect. It actually did happen in the Civil War where a southern military was created. Some of those soldiers and officers were soldiers and officers of the US military before the Confederacy was created so they did indeed go against the US government. Of course the US government ultimately and thankfully prevailed but look at the cost. Something like that today could potentially be far far worse, God forbid.

Rich, I don't think you're delusional. I also don't think that you really believe that there's going to be a US govt. so tyrannical that the American people successfully turn the military against their commander in chief. Again, for 243 years we've always been able to legislate, adjudicate and vote our way out of domestic problems, ideological conflicts, etc. *The only exception being the civil war, but that involved the secession of 11 states and the formation of a new government.

and the Ohio shooter was a socialist who would have voted for Warren , so what is your point. we started talking about mental issues , but when you start pointing the finger to one ideology , the argument turns to talking about civil war and military, people start to high five and think they have won the argument , But the truth is is that we have all lost . We have lost because we have lost site of the subject and have stopped trying to solve a problem that we all agree is and thus been a self fulfilling prophesy of being part of the problem ... Well done

Thanks, Ken. You're right that I don't think government will become so tyrannical that the American people successfully turn the military against their commander in chief in the short term and as long as the 2nd amendment exists, although I can't dismiss the possibility in the future based on how divisive and childish our politics have become and the tendencies of some of the politicians we have today to seek more and more power while increasingly ignoring the will of the people, eroding their rights and dictating what their morals should be.

TRue! I have noticed that the Green Crackle has come back as a Jackson Custom Shop axe! I was thinking it would be a gimmick indo/china guitar, but nope! It's a full on custom shop build. Hope springs eternal! smile.gif

Having "right Privilege" is a burden to be sure. countless generations of "Right People" have corrupted the guitar industry and "Right pride" has impacted the number of "Lefties" available.
