Hey!

Before I start I suppose I should mention that if I'm going to import the gear there's a 25% VAT, so please keep that in mind! smile.gif Thanks

I'm going to buy a new guitar and a new amp.

I don't want a locking tremolo on my guitar. I play alot of metal, but also some rock and other various other stuff.
My current amp is a Roland Cube 30x.
I think that's about it. tongue.gif

So, can anyone recommend me a good guitar and a good amplifier? Thanks!

EDIT:

Added info:
I've got around $1500 to spend in total, so that would mean for both together. It's possible that I'll get a couple hundred dollars more, but we'll see.

I would like it to be a tube amp, yes, but anything will do if it's good. I will mainly use it at home for practice, but the future might bring more so I would like to be prepared if possible with my budget.

Let's see... sound. I've always liked Dethklok's guitars. Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stdqPT8LvTg

For shape, I generally prefer the super strat/strat type. I'd like at least 24 frets. Any type of wood will do.

The new Jackson Matt Tuck Signature guitars are pretty cool, I don't know if you would like them, but they play like a dream from I have heard. You can get it in black, sparkly silver, and snow white. Really anything Jackson or Ibanez will do the job.

As for amps, I would suggest a Line 6. They have a cheap price for how well they sound.

I hope that helped a little.

1500$ to spend on both together or 1500$ for each?

Also please be a bit more specific in what you want!

Tube amp? Home Use/rehearsals/Gigs? Sounds of bands you like/want to achieve (helps to get a general direction)

What guitar shape? How many frets? Woods? etc

Every info helps.

Well you have to think if you would rather spend 1500$ on a good guitar and amp or spend the whole amount for a great professional gutar while you live with your current amp for a little longer. The Roland 30 is not too bad and good enough for home use, you could spend all your money on a really good guitar instead of getting only a decent one and a slightly better amp. - Just my opinion though!

Dethkloks guitars would be Gibson Explorers or Flying Vs

http://www.thomann.de/gb/gibson_flying_v_67_ebony.htm

Great quality Gibson guitars, perfect for Metal and Rock but a bit expensive new. You can find those used in good condition on Ebay for ~900$ . Both have only 22 Frets (which is enough 99% of the time imho)

Here are some Metal guitars within your price limit:

This little amp is not very loud but has awesome tube tones:

This one is a bit more expensive and really loud, propably too loud for home use but it's a Metal machine:

i would spend $1000 on the guitar, $500 on the amp in the first place

you really should consider getting a high end guitar since your budget is high. Shoot for something made in japan or america like a fender strat, gibsion, or ibanez prestige. If you cant find something new, do not hesitate to go used, you will be amazed at what you can find!

as for the amp

the black star ht-5 is good

there is also a new 20watt tubue amp from soldano called jet city 333 and it is sround $500 for the 1x12 cab + head...sounds awesome!

If I were you with those goals and that money...I would get a Jackson SLSMG for the guitar (just make sure you get the one with active EMG pickups in my opinion), and a Blackstar HT-5 amp. That would be a killer metal rig!!!

Thanks, guys! Appreciate the help. smile.gif

I've definitely put the idea of a 120w amp on hold for now. I was looking at some 120w Bugera models before I posted this thread, but I've come to the conclusion that it'll be way too loud for home use.

Out of the tube amps mentioned here I like the Blackstar HT-5 the best, but I also searched around on some forums and found the Krank Rev Jr. Pro. I'm abit confused though. I think there's a Rev Jr. Pro and a Rev Jr. Standard, but the Pro version is only a head, and I think the Standard has a combo version. I'm not sure if it would sound a whole lot different if I bought the "Standard" combo, as opposed to the Pro version.

I think the Blackstar is abit tame in comparison to the Krank Rev. Jr Pro, but I can't really tell considering all I've heard is random youtube videos. I wish I could play them, but that is not the case. sad.gif

As for the guitars, I'd rather not play anything that's not a superstrat-shape. The Schecters look nice, but I've heard mixed reviews about them. Hmm..

I'll look further into the Jackson SLSMG and the Ibanez Prestige guitars, though. I might end up snatching something used from eBay.

Excellent guide, Marc_Maiden! Thank you.

There only seems to be about 2 choices for me if I'm getting a high-end Ibanez though; the Ibanez RGA321(F), or the RGA121H. I'll look into those, though.

you can find the RGA121 for around $600 in MINT condition used.

If you can live with out the 24 frets, the Ibanez S classics or Ibanez SF series are awesome fix bridged S series guitars
