Let's do another "Looping Lick" for today. This one works well with Alternate Picking, but it's Dealers Choice on how you want to pick it. You can pick it any way that feels comfortable, as such there is no pick notation in the tablature. Start slow and stay in control. Push the speed til it falls apart. It's ok to push beyond your limits. It's how you create new limits smile.gif Just make sure the video is one that is within your limits. This is a very good lick for working on picking and string/fret traverse all in one drill. Give it a shot!!

*NOTE: Keep it smooth and under control. If you find you are losing control, slow down just a pinch.

Big Thanks to Laurie Monk of the TRUTH IN SHREDDING blog/facebook page for sharing all of the quick licks with his audience!

BACKGROUND / COMMENTS: This lick works slow or fast so don't feel like you have to shred it up. The vid is just to show you what it can sound like with practice Try the Ben Higgins Burst approach and play one loop briskly, or even part of a loop to see what it will feel like to play it fast.

Hit me up with any questions!
Todd

Nice!! You may have noticed that this picking/traverse pattern is very similar to the previous quick lick. I added a fret traverse on top of the string traverse. This shift is part of the 3 notes per string version of the Minor Scale. This one section of the scale tends to really throw people off. To the point that folks avoid the 3 nps version of the scale. However, once you get used to this shift, it will open up your playing in a HUGE degree. I can see that you are struggling just a pinch with the shift but you have the hang of it which is the whole point of quick licks. To dive in and give it a whirl. I continue to be impressed with the your cahones!! Always first to jump in!! You just..
LEVELED UP!!!
You remain our TOP DAWG and are still the highest ranking GMCer EVER in Quick Licks. Congrats!!

A few loops in you got it!!! You may be pushing the speed a bit beyond where you are in full control of the lick at this point, but I certainly understand the desire to shred smile.gif You are clearly able to to play this type of lick, even if you may be missing a note here or there in this vid. After all, this is Quick licks, so getting the lick down "quickly" and putting up a vid is the real point of all this and you've done very well on that. A note missed here or there isn't going to keep you from moving ahead in Quick Licks as long as you are getting the over all direction of a given lick. If this were BOOTCAMP, I might send you back to the wood shed, but this isn't Bootcamp!! smile.gif You can cleary SHRED!!! I'd say go back and spend some time doing this lick a bit slower in your daily practice until you get it down 100 percent and then ramp the speed back up. For now, You are ready for the next one you just ...
LEVELED UP!!!
Also, Congratulations are in order!! You just got the START OF HONOR added to your QUICK LICKS badge as you are now the Highest Ranking GMC'r, EVER in QUICK LICKS. NICE!!!!!!

Yet again, perfect. I'm really glad you are playing these. It's great to see such good examples of each one and done by a student, not just an instructor. These are all quite playable and you are doing a great job of putting all the pieces together. The mute is perfect, synch, picking, pace, it's all there. Niiiiiiiiiiiccccceeee!!!!!!!

Good loop there!! This is a great lick to loop. It can help you build your endurance and your precision. You have a solid mute here but bearing down a bit more would give it a more chunky sound which is always fun on licks like this. Giving it a nearly mechanical quality makes these them sound very cool. Also, running this drill in double pick or triple pick or quad pick is a great way to expand on your ability. Give it a go as multi pick during your next practice session!!

You got this one!!

You just..

LEVELED UP!!!
