GMC Forum _ Electronic Entertainment _ Scariest Game Series Ever?

Posted by: Spiderusalem Dec 25 2007, 12:33 AM

I firmly believe that the fatal frame games are the scariest games ever made. My ex girlfriend once broke down in tears out of fear/anxiety/jumpyness from playing the first one. I wanna hear what you think.

Posted by: Smells Dec 25 2007, 12:42 AM

Silent hill 1 for me, so creepy, my girlfriend at the time wouldnt let me play it if she was in the room, and I didnt like playing it when I was on my own laugh.gif so never finished it laugh.gif

Posted by: JVM Dec 25 2007, 12:52 AM

System shock 2 needs to be in the scariest of all time category, because it is cool.gif

Posted by: Pavel Dec 25 2007, 01:02 AM

Played some of these games and saw almost all of them but really don't know which one is the scariest smile.gif

Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 25 2007, 01:16 AM

Silent Hill 2 for me, cause i played it when i was kinda young, so it really got to me then, i dont really get scared by games anymore, a select few get me though wink.gif

Most frightening series for me is the Doom one.

Most frightening game out of series would be F.E.A.R.

And my scariest game of all time is Condemned. Took me months to finish the last level just because I was scared of ever going down that basement.

I remember I went into the basement of this house, and I grabbed a 2x4 off the wall and walked into a corner. Then I took out the blacklight and looked around, and then I heard a sound behind me. I turned to see a zombie ready to hit me in the face.

My neighbors ended up calling my house to see if someone was killed. They said they heard a woman shrieking.

I could only play F.E.A.R during the day. I'm a baby though, And when I started to play condemned I nearly wet myself.

Amazing games though! So much suspense.

Posted by: Ayen Dec 25 2007, 08:55 AM

Agreed, and both had brilliant storylines!

Posted by: spdalton Dec 25 2007, 09:29 AM

F.E.A.R was awesome but so scary!
But for my "Other . explain in thread" game it would be Zork Nemesis.
A puzzle game that just seemed to freak me out when I played it as a child.

I remember buying the playstation in 1995, with resident evil. There had never been a game like it before. Started the game off, had a look around the main hallway, then went into the dining room. Nothing much interesting in here. Side door into a hallway. OMG there's a zombie munching on a body! BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG, clip empty. Load new clip BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG, clip empty. Knife out, SLICE SLICE SLICE. Okay, it's dead. *heavy breathing*

I remember at this point thinking "there must be another couple of zombies dotted about this house", and had to spend the next quarter of the game without any bullets. I was a nervous wreck by the time the dogs burst through the windows.

Absolutely great game. There have been a couple of others since that have had the "jump" factor. But Res Evil was the first.

Strangely enough, I found that the subsequent Res Evil titles were too easy? You never seemed to run out of stuff, and the monsters were too easy to kill :S

Posted by: ezravdb Dec 25 2007, 11:24 AM

I agree F.E.A.R. is one hell of a scary game ohmy.gif

Posted by: Owen Dec 25 2007, 01:54 PM

Diablo - the original, whilst listening to Cannibal Corpse. laugh.gif

Euuurrrgghhh!

My mum always hated that game... tongue.gif

Silent Hill 1 for me.
I was really young when i played it the first time, i bought one of these demo/magazines at the game shop, it was a star wars dedicated mag, so i thought the cd would be a star wars demo aswell tongue.gif
I started to play, and i noticed i didnt have any light saber or something, and it was all dark and creepy, i turned off the console when i saw the first monster laugh.gif .
A few weeks after that, i bought the game, because i was curious tongue.gif
I finished it and loved it, the story line is amazing, as well as for the other games of the serie.

Haha yeah laugh.gif Me and my dad played it together when I must have been about 9.

My little brother found it again recently and played it - it disappointed though, I remember it being so much more vivid than a bumch of pixelated red and grey blobs. biggrin.gif

I'm a Doom fan, so my answer is simple smile.gif

OOGIE BOOGIE!!! biggrin.gif

Resident Evil series is the scariest for me....

F.E.A.R is so scary, I have it but I'm afraid to play it, and when I get the courage to play it, it only takes me a couple of minutes and I'm crying like a little baby smile.gif

Resident Evil 4 is the scariest game of all time, but also an awesome game because of the story smile.gif

also Condemned is so scary, it crawls somewhere into your brains darkest places and stays there and hunts you forever smile.gif ( Same with F.E.A.R )

Posted by: superize Dec 25 2007, 04:52 PM

I dont like to play scary games.... I am always nervous when i am playing so i really dont like playing them.

Posted by: Ayen Dec 26 2007, 05:13 AM

Funny story with Condemned I just remembered.

One day after school two of my friends came over, and one gets scared easily. So me and my other friend have him try out Condemned. He starts up, gets a bit far into the first level, and is about to meet with the first psychopath. So the guy starts screaming, charging at my friend's character, and at that second, my other friend shook the chair as hard as he could.

Coincidentally, my dog wanted to come into my room that exact same moment, so he starts pounding on the door with his paws.

My friend jumped up screaming, and broke my desk. Totally worth it though!

I've never played it, I may have been too young to get at it. If there are roms online I'll see if I can download it and try it out.

It's a pc game. I'm betting you can find it for extremely cheap these days as it's rather old now, but an unopened boxed version of the game or the collectors edition can go for $50-$100 still. It's consistently voted as one of the top few PC games of all time, so I suggest everyone try it out (/promo off) tongue.gif

Ah, I thought it was Playstation game, given that most of the ones mentioned here are.

Note: Anyone reading, don't think that by me mentioning Roms I at all condone illegally downloading games like that, it's just impossible to find a copy of a Playstation game these days.

Scaries game of all time. Is AVP1 (aliens vs predator) marine campaign. I challenge anyone to play it at night with the lights off. Its the only game i know people have actually stopped playing because they were to afraid to keep playing biggrin.gif

Posted by: Tuubsu Dec 29 2007, 01:50 PM

F.E.A.R was a great game but I never found it that scary... tongue.gif
Silent hill series are just the greatest of the genre...

But the scariest game of all must be DOOM 3, heck, I almost accidentally killed our cat when I was playing Doom3. unsure.gif The game had just gotten a little more peaceful when suddenly this 2 stories high übermegamonster crashes through the freaking wall... That second I crap my pants, jump 6 feet in the air and hurl the Xbox controller, when it just barely misses our cats head.

And now I'm scared of walls... unsure.gif

Posted by: mattacuk Dec 29 2007, 01:51 PM

I found Half Life 2 scary, especially with all the zombies comeing at me unsure.gif

I actually paniced once while playing Doom 3 in the middle of the night with the lights switched off laugh.gif I walked around in the dark (in the game) and heard some wierd noises, took up the flashlight and stared directly into a fat zoombie laugh.gif and then I turned around out of instinct and stared into one of them huge monsters on fire, and turned around again (it was a T-shaped hall) and saw another monster! It felt like I was having a nightmare and I just pressed esc, ripped off my headset and jumped out of my chair laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: Juan M. Valero Jan 2 2008, 02:24 PM

hehe, I really understand you, Erik, I'm now playing Doom and it's the scariest game ever !!!!! When I started to play I couldn't play more than half an hour because I was exhausted !!! hehehe, it's incredible this game wink.gif

I like it when a game can inflict fear and terror into me, only a select few do, but when it does, its awesome!

F.E.A.R. Is the only modern one that does it really, its subtlety and sudden jolts of anxiety are great, pure genious smile.gif

Posted by: SLASH91 Jan 4 2008, 12:34 AM

Hmmm, I havn't played most of these, but the Ravenholm level in Halflife 2 defintitely scared the crap out of me in a few places. I still have nightmares about those super-fast zombie things unsure.gif

Not really, but they were creepy.

Agreed, at one point I nearly broke down because I didn't want to continue, but at the same time I really wanted to, the storyline was so brilliant.

We played it at work - we were on a multimedia project at the time so all of our PCs had sound cards, which was very unusual in offices in those days - everyone loved our cubicles smile.gif

We spent days researching the network software needed to play death matches, and we were the first to play deathmatches in the building - really cool smile.gif
