I firmly believe that the fatal frame games are the scariest games ever made. My ex girlfriend once broke down in tears out of fear/anxiety/jumpyness from playing the first one. I wanna hear what you think.
Silent hill 1 for me, so creepy, my girlfriend at the time wouldnt let me play it if she was in the room, and I didnt like playing it when I was on my own so never finished it
System shock 2 needs to be in the scariest of all time category, because it is
Played some of these games and saw almost all of them but really don't know which one is the scariest
Silent Hill 2 for me, cause i played it when i was kinda young, so it really got to me then, i dont really get scared by games anymore, a select few get me though
Most frightening series for me is the Doom one.
Most frightening game out of series would be F.E.A.R.
And my scariest game of all time is Condemned. Took me months to finish the last level just because I was scared of ever going down that basement.
I remember I went into the basement of this house, and I grabbed a 2x4 off the wall and walked into a corner. Then I took out the blacklight and looked around, and then I heard a sound behind me. I turned to see a zombie ready to hit me in the face.
My neighbors ended up calling my house to see if someone was killed. They said they heard a woman shrieking.
Agreed, and both had brilliant storylines!
F.E.A.R was awesome but so scary!
But for my "Other . explain in thread" game it would be Zork Nemesis.
A puzzle game that just seemed to freak me out when I played it as a child.
I remember buying the playstation in 1995, with resident evil. There had never been a game like it before. Started the game off, had a look around the main hallway, then went into the dining room. Nothing much interesting in here. Side door into a hallway. OMG there's a zombie munching on a body! BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG, clip empty. Load new clip BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG, clip empty. Knife out, SLICE SLICE SLICE. Okay, it's dead. *heavy breathing*
I remember at this point thinking "there must be another couple of zombies dotted about this house", and had to spend the next quarter of the game without any bullets. I was a nervous wreck by the time the dogs burst through the windows.
Absolutely great game. There have been a couple of others since that have had the "jump" factor. But Res Evil was the first.
Strangely enough, I found that the subsequent Res Evil titles were too easy? You never seemed to run out of stuff, and the monsters were too easy to kill :S
I agree F.E.A.R. is one hell of a scary game
Diablo - the original, whilst listening to Cannibal Corpse.
Euuurrrgghhh!
My mum always hated that game...
Silent Hill 1 for me.
I was really young when i played it the first time, i bought one of these demo/magazines at the game shop, it was a star wars dedicated mag, so i thought the cd would be a star wars demo aswell
I started to play, and i noticed i didnt have any light saber or something, and it was all dark and creepy, i turned off the console when i saw the first monster .
A few weeks after that, i bought the game, because i was curious
I finished it and loved it, the story line is amazing, as well as for the other games of the serie.
I'm a Doom fan, so my answer is simple
OOGIE BOOGIE!!!
Resident Evil series is the scariest for me....
F.E.A.R is so scary, I have it but I'm afraid to play it, and when I get the courage to play it, it only takes me a couple of minutes and I'm crying like a little baby
Resident Evil 4 is the scariest game of all time, but also an awesome game because of the story
also Condemned is so scary, it crawls somewhere into your brains darkest places and stays there and hunts you forever ( Same with F.E.A.R )
I dont like to play scary games.... I am always nervous when i am playing so i really dont like playing them.
One of the scariest games i have ever played (Havent played so many scary games) was Area 51..I played it like 2 times then i didnt want to play mre because it was really scary
I haven't played any of these... Only Ratchet and Clank and car racing stuff...
RE2 rulezzz
for me it would have to be the silent hill series...scares the crap out of me every time.
Funny story with Condemned I just remembered.
One day after school two of my friends came over, and one gets scared easily. So me and my other friend have him try out Condemned. He starts up, gets a bit far into the first level, and is about to meet with the first psychopath. So the guy starts screaming, charging at my friend's character, and at that second, my other friend shook the chair as hard as he could.
Coincidentally, my dog wanted to come into my room that exact same moment, so he starts pounding on the door with his paws.
My friend jumped up screaming, and broke my desk. Totally worth it though!
i'm batman
RE4 , scared me for awhile but I got used to it
No one else is a fan of SS2?
I've never played it, I may have been too young to get at it. If there are roms online I'll see if I can download it and try it out.
Love Doom series
Silent Hill for me, it was scary but awesome
Scaries game of all time. Is AVP1 (aliens vs predator) marine campaign. I challenge anyone to play it at night with the lights off. Its the only game i know people have actually stopped playing because they were to afraid to keep playing
F.E.A.R was a great game but I never found it that scary...
Silent hill series are just the greatest of the genre...
But the scariest game of all must be DOOM 3, heck, I almost accidentally killed our cat when I was playing Doom3. The game had just gotten a little more peaceful when suddenly this 2 stories high übermegamonster crashes through the freaking wall... That second I crap my pants, jump 6 feet in the air and hurl the Xbox controller, when it just barely misses our cats head.
And now I'm scared of walls...
I found Half Life 2 scary, especially with all the zombies comeing at me
"We Don't Go To Ravenholm"
One of the best parts in any videogame.
Have you ever played any of your younger sisters Barbie-Point-and-Click-Adventures? THAT is scary!
I actually paniced once while playing Doom 3 in the middle of the night with the lights switched off I walked around in the dark (in the game) and heard some wierd noises, took up the flashlight and stared directly into a fat zoombie and then I turned around out of instinct and stared into one of them huge monsters on fire, and turned around again (it was a T-shaped hall) and saw another monster! It felt like I was having a nightmare and I just pressed esc, ripped off my headset and jumped out of my chair
hehe, I really understand you, Erik, I'm now playing Doom and it's the scariest game ever !!!!! When I started to play I couldn't play more than half an hour because I was exhausted !!! hehehe, it's incredible this game
Well games don't really scare me anymore cause I know they're just GAMES. But when I was little Quake kept me up at nights.

I like it when a game can inflict fear and terror into me, only a select few do, but when it does, its awesome!
F.E.A.R. Is the only modern one that does it really, its subtlety and sudden jolts of anxiety are great, pure genious
Hmmm, I havn't played most of these, but the Ravenholm level in Halflife 2 defintitely scared the crap out of me in a few places. I still have nightmares about those super-fast zombie things
Not really, but they were creepy.
Ravenholm in HL2 Is Awesome!
Those Cacodaemon in Doom were pretty scary
Or maybe im just a big girls blouse...
Speaking of doom - one of the only really frightening game experiences I had was in Doom - the very first time I saw one of those fiery skulls that screams and dashes towards you ...
We played it at work - we were on a multimedia project at the time so all of our PCs had sound cards, which was very unusual in offices in those days - everyone loved our cubicles
We spent days researching the network software needed to play death matches, and we were the first to play deathmatches in the building - really cool
