Hi Roman,

We continue now with our work for February. For first 2 assignments I have decided to continue with superimposing with minor pentatonics only this time you will have to read the thread about major chords and record some superimposing with minor pentatonics over major type chords.

Here is your 1st and 2nd assignment

1st assignment :

- Read Superimposing with Minor Pentatonics over Major type chords post HERE
- After reading the whole thing with related link posts, think about choosing one chord and one approach you will use for recording!

2nd assignment :

- After you have chosen your approach, record a backing track with that chord and on top of that record yourself soloing with 1 or all 3 minor pentatonics corresponding with that mode!

Let me give you an example here. Lets say that you have chosen C major as your chord. Now you also chose C major to be treated as I (Ionian sounding). In that case you should play minor pentatonics from C major scale ( D ,E and A minor pentatonics) over C major chord in the background. 4th assignment asks you only to pick 1 but it also allows you to use all 3 pentatonics if you want to.
Backing track doesn't have to be anything fancy for this purpose. Just guitar playing the chord will do, if you want to add bass and drums to that to make it sound tighter go ahead!

Deadline for first two assignments is 14th of February.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey Pedja,

i would use A Major chord on IV for my backing track.

Therefore i can use F# G# C# minor pentatonic. is this correct?

Cheers Roman

Roman we continue with your remaining assignments for February. We have 3rd, 4th and REC assignment to cover.

3rd assignment and REC :

- Record Open Triads in a major scale series part 1 lesson found HERE
- Once you are done with video recording, upload it in REC part of forum for grading. Make sure that you include voting pool.

4th assignment :

- Record backing track using two random chords!
- Chords could have the same quality (two major chords for example) or different quality ( minor and then major chord).
- Chords don't have to be diatonic ( in other words you could record C and Eb major chords in backing track!)
- Over these chords, solo using superimposing with minor pentatonics!
- Once you recorded your solo, upload it in this thread.

For example... I choose to record two chords that have same quality, major chords. First chord is C major while second is Eb major. Duration is the same for both of the chords. Now what I need to do is decide what I want my C major and Eb major to sound like. I decide that I want C major to sound like Ionian, so I pick E minor pentatonic to solo over. In other case I choose my Eb major to sound like Mixolyidian, so I pick Bb minor pentatonic to superimpose over it. Now I record a solo using E minor and Bb minor pentatonics over C major and Eb major chords. The duration of solo is your choice!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Deadline for these assignments is 28th of February !

Hey Pedja,

thanks for this 2 new assignments. It seems that this will be the last two assignments for me. With the new MTP rules i am forced to make a 3 month break that others can join the MTP. It's sad but i understand the decision.

However i have a question on the 3 assignment and Rec Take. I am learning it right now and i struggle with one thing which i have from the beginning of playing guitar. My barré chords sound not good. For example the F# dim in the lesson is a big problem for me. The note A in this chord sounds dead. And that happens so often. i think it's not a pressure problem because i have enough power to fret it but the string seems to be under a hole of my finger or something. Do you have any advice for me how i can develop my barré chord playing.

Thanks a lot

Roman

Hey Roman,

I totally agree with you my friend. With new MTP rules we have to take a 3 month brake. I wasn't making those rules, I just have to follow like you do. If it makes you feel any good about everything, I was and still am unhappy with new rules regarding MTP. All you guys that worked with me for past months now have to take a brake and from experience I know that taking a brake is not a great thing, especially when you are playing an instrument like guitar which you have to dedicate time and work hard every day. 3 months is a long time and hope before that they will figure out some new and better system as I don't see this one working out at all.

Regarding your question for barre chords... Could you please record and upload video here so I can see and hear what your problem is? I don't want to give you any advice as I am not sure I understand your issue right now.

Thank you Roman!

Hi edguy

I'm no expert but just try moving your elbow of your left arm a little further away from your body

I think this will straighten your barre finger and might help.

Hey Roman,

You should work on pressing with your index finger and thumb around same position on guitar neck. Perhaps a little bit on the left should your thumb be. Also try lowering your index finger when barring. I see tip of your finger above the fretboard a lot, you can lower it down a bit without any problem. Try those things and let me know how it goes!

Hey Pedja,

i tried everything yesterday but the problem is still there. The first E min chord (12,14,12) sometimes sound good. But the F# dim chord at the 14 fret does not sound at all. The first to strings sound good but the g string sounds dead.

I tried to use my second finger and lay it upon my index finger to get more strength but it does not help. And that is what i meant with my first post. It seems that it is not a pressure related problem. I think that the G string lie under a part of my finger which can be described as a whole biggrin.gif Hope that makes sense, to bad that i can't write in german biggrin.gif

I think i have to use the side of my index finger to make the g string sound good. I will keep you updated.

cheers and Thanks a lot

PS: Oh it's so sad that on sunday it is our last day in the MTP, because of the new rules sad.gif

Hey Pedja,

last day, last assignment: here it is :Attached File  A4.mp3 ( 997.59K ) Number of downloads: 154

I hope you like it. I used C Major and G Major in the backing and E minor and A minor Pentatonic for Solo.

let's see how it goes on with the new MTP rules and maybe i have the luck to join up again with you in 3 months. I learned so much from the beginning with you. I never wrote it here but with your help i was able to write my first own song. I wrote this song for my girlfriend and it was a nice Christmas present. If you want to listen to it here it is :

Attached File  NikolausGeschenk.mp3 ( 5.17MB ) Number of downloads: 173

So i have to say it again: Thanks for the great time, i learned a lot and it was really fun to work with you and complete your assignments.

Cheers

Roman

Hey Roman my friend,

Great work with REC, assingment and song for your gf. I was very happy to read about that and then listen to the song and enjoy it.
I must say that I am very unhappy with new MTP rules, I don't feel we should stop working nor that you guys should pause for 3 months. I am sincerely hoping they would find a new way very soon. Otherwise I will stop teaching 9 of you guys here which is definitely something I don't want to happen.
Lets keep in touch, write me on my board as I have to close this thread and submit it for your completed work in February!
