It has been one of the most entertaining shows I've seen in the last years. We all know how great Kotzen, Sheehan, and Portnoy but I'm amazed on how well they interact during the show. The show included power rock, acoustic sections, piano sections and a balanced quantity of groove, good taste and viruosity.

Kotzen has been one of my all time inspirations so I knew that he is very talented, but I could confirm and enjoy live how effortless he sings, plays guitar and piano. This is what I would call "effortless mastery".

Portnoy had some technical issues so he decided to destroy his drum kit at the end of the show... very funny. laugh.gif

I think Richie has been underrated for a long time, probably because of his association with Poison. With the winery dogs I think he's finally getting the respect he deserves. The winery dogs originally was going to be John Sykes instead of Richie, which also would have been an interesting lineup.

Yes Kotzen is awesome. When he joined Poison they released the "Native Tongue" album. (I believe in 1993) . Ritchie lifted the musical quality of poison to a greater level. He also did backing vocals on that record and somehow that was the end for him in poison. Brett was afraid that Ritchie wanted to stand too much in the spotlight.......... young roosters ! huh.gif What a shame that was. Native Tongue is one of my favourite albums.

yeah, it's a great album, with awesome guitar work.

"In late-1993, Rockett discovered that the then guitarist Richie Kotzen of Poison was having a relationship with Rockett's fiancee at the time, Deanna Eve. Kotzen was fired due to this incident. In VH1's "Behind The Music", singer Bret Michaels said he never wanted to speak to Kotzen again." ohmy.gif

Here I've found a very cool article about Richie's days on Poison:

"I joined a band that really opened the creative door for me to do whatever the hell I wanted. I mean, that 'Native Tongue' record could have easily been my solo record; I mean, they let me do whatever I wanted. And the only difference is that I co-wrote the lyrics with Bret Michaels, and he was the lead singer. But they couldn't have treated me better on a creative level during that process. I was coming from Shrapnel Records where, if we spent twenty grand on a record, we were in big trouble, and our budget for the POISON record was two and a half million dollars back in 1991.

Kotzen also played down the story about him dating drummer Rikki Rockett's ex-fiancée, which many believe got him ousted from group, saying that he has long since made up with his former bandmates. "I saw Bret since then," he explained. "He hugged me and said he loved me and congratulated me on how well I'm doing. I've seen Bobby [Dall, bass] multiple times. I saw Rikki once and shook his hand and said hello. Everything is completely fine. Whatever happened back then, I will tell you the truth of the matter is that it was really sensationalized; it wasn't nearly as insane as what was put in the press. They needed a story, 'cause the tour was bombing and the band was going into oblivion, so to speak. So, you know, they needed a story… But, in the end, we're all on good terms."

OK, I see. Poison was never big in my country and information about them was rather scarce. I remember reading an interview with Bret about the fact Richie was fired because of rivalry between him and Bret. The above states that that was just gossip. Anyway, it remains a shame that the Richie story in Poison ended there. They could have made another great album. smile.gif
