Improvisation is when you're making up a solo(or whatever smile.gif ) in the moment while you're playing. For instance, use the pentatonic scale, and just play inside the scale, climb around in the scale, do some licks etc. Hmm I guess I'm not good at explaining, maybe wait for someone else to do it! smile.gif

improvising is just playing as you go along to simplify the term. for example, say you and a friend are playing and he starts playing a riff of chords in the key of E. then you join in and either play the riff too or play something else that works with it within the same key. (solo, melody or other chord pattern you choose). maybe change the riff or adding to it, might even change keys or time making it up as you go along.

It's the same that everyone does the first time they hear freebird. you play along with it and do your own 10 minute guitar solo laugh.gif

you just improvised wink.gif

And improvising is a lot fun too!
Remember always to practice your favourite licks with music,
that way you'll use it automatically in your improvisations wink.gif

Improvising on the guitar, is basiclly the way you express your feelings through the guitar, how many times you found yourself listening to a song, and thinking of a great guitar solo over the chords of that song.

Well, what you're doing by that is basiclly improvising, now pick up your guitar, put on a song/backing track, and jam away, while trying to make the melody in your head come through the guitar, which is quite a difficult task, but with some practice you'll get there, and we all guitar god wanabe's will tongue.gif
