Midi isn't an audio file. So first you need to route the midi file to an appropriate vst. You then record the vst to an audio file. Then you can render the audio to mp3 if it isn't already in that format.

If you have a program such as Vegas, Audiocity, Cubase, Cakewalk, etc. It's actually very easy to do it. You only have to open the program and import the midi file. Once you have imported the file, you just have to go to export file, and select audio mix, or mp3, or whatever you need. It is just that easy.
And now that I remember, Guitar Pro has the posibility to render what you're writing into an audio file such as mp3 and wav. You just have to do same process as I told you previously. Go to export and choose the file type you need. Hope it helps you -------------------- Check out my lessons!

Windows comes with MX GM Wavetable set of instruments so that can be used by default. I agree with Skenny tho, it's just a step more than beeps and dings, so it can basically serve as a useful information about the note layouts, not as realistic song.

If you just need Midi into MP3 then type that into Google. There are plenty of free pages that allow you to upload midi and have it out as MP3.
