Guitar Secrets, What helps you play better?

What helps you improvise? Just put one thing on here that helps you do anything that you do on guitar, and why does it, or why do you think it helps!!! Mine would be to be relaxed at all times..which can be hard sometimes..when under pressure..because everybody is expecting so much of you...and ur worried..that u might mess up!!! Most people who get stuck don't want to realise what they actually need to practice. I think this is valid for most things in life. Reconsider reconsider reconsider! If it's a paying gig, get there early and check things out. Never be surprised about the surroundings, etc. Then set alone with your guitar and get warmed up. I like to warm up for an hour if I have that kind of time. If I know what I'm walking into, I'm usually ok. If I go in cold, I tend to mess up more. Perhaps you may meet someone who works there - (bartender, waiter, bouncer, etc. if you're at a bar or something) and ask them what the crowd is like and what they usually expect. Ask them to provide you some feedback after your first set and then you can adjust. Generally someone like that will be objective because you have asked for their opinion and they have seen musicians night after night and they know the deal.
