GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Rg550 Project 2 !

Posted by: snackajacks Jan 20 2013, 03:05 PM

As some of you might know, last year I build a rg550 from parts all over the internet and it turn out to look
like this :

First Painted Body next to my first rg550 :

The Final result :

So I got one spare body left ( from a trade ) its an original rg550 body, and I do like those shocking pink ( Check out Cosmin's guitar. Thats the color ) so today
I thought id give it a shot.

First Spray :

So I am wondering whether I am giving it a jemlike body with claw, or just leave it with the rg550 body and give it some colorfull knobs.
And still not sure if I will replace the pink body with the yellow or just build a new guitar , so buy a new neck etc.

This is great mate! I would do a new guitar with the new body if I would be able to do it... I believe that this is a cheaper way to get a top level guitar, isn't it? and at the same time... it's your creation.

I'm really digging that yellow man. Great work on that one.

How does it play?

Yes , I really like to create something of my own, and to my own likings. And I learned a lot about the guitar when setting it up. I would recommend it for anyone to do !

The action is set quite low and I like it like that, The yellow color is actually some weird color from a car store I think.
I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this one and my factory rg550, And compared to my Epiphone this guitar
sounds and plays like a dream. biggrin.gif

Where did you get the parts? Ebay?

Posted by: snackajacks Jan 20 2013, 04:30 PM

Yes a local ebay for the netherlands called marktplaats.
www.marktplaats.nl.

but there are some good ebaystores where I bought small parts, like scratchplates etc.

Very nice SJ... That Yellow is nice and bright!!

I love what you did with it mate - pretty close to my JEM 777 SK smile.gif Now, as we already talked on your FB post - you can either leave it like this, or add the Steve Vai signature 'Monkey Grip' and 'Lion's Claw'

Looking forward to see where this will go tongue.gif

I decided to keep it standard like a pink rg550 but I do want a maple neck on the guitar just the same as I have now, and then the pyramid inlays would be cool. But I don't know how good these stickers are. I am too afraid that I will do something wrong with either the monkey grip or lion claw since I have no experience with woodwork whatsoever. And this is the first project where I want to try some new pickups instead of the standard s2. v7, v8

Sounds like tedious work mate - you should consult a luthier I think .. Maybe he is willing to guide you through with your project smile.gif

Those vinyl stickers are OK, they're very thin and won't affect anything.
Cutting a Monkey Grip isn't too hard but cutting a Lion Claw is quite a complicated thing to do, unless you happen to have a CNC Routing Machine?? wink.gif
As for the P/ups? Save the money and get a full set of Dimarzio Evolutions!! biggrin.gif

That looks awesome man!! smile.gif

I'd go ahead and build a new guitar with it, if you can. If you don't like it, at least you've got some spare parts around for another future build, right? I think it'll turn out great though, if it turns out anything like your first one!

If you like those - I for one find them WAY too aggressive in the unpleasant way tongue.gif

Cool! I would go for a pink Ibanez! biggrin.gif

Nice one smile.gif It's a different pink in comparison to mine - a little more sober I'd say laugh.gif
