Who did Bullet For My Valentine rip off?

What the hell does that mean?

Did Exodus, Heathen, Testament, & Overkill rip off every thrash metal band too?

Isnt there a BIG difference between stealing another artists material and not being unique enough to stand out from the rest of th ebands in your genre?

Trivium just use riffs from Testament, Metallica and Iron Maiden in everything. The 4 bands you mentioned are fairly original and all sound different. They evolved the sound. Trivium aren't evolving anything. They are useless.

I don't mind rip of's as long as it's done well.

For example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjtZW_FCSTo - Opeth - Benighted

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wesgWiJSAG8 - Camel - Never Let Go

I don't mind these things, it's often accidents, and otherwise I just see it as little things that are tributes, it's still not easy to make everything fit together if you would steal 100% of all your music, so no, it doesn't really bother me.

Yeah that is the case sometimes. Like Pearl Jam - Yellow Ledbetter and Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing but a lot of the time they do a medley of the two and it is clearly a tribute to Hendrix.

I dont find Trivium to be a rip off. They arent my favorite band by any stretch but I do ind them a bit refreshing.

They have the intensity in the music that some of the classic thrash bands had WHILE adding something different vocally.

And on top of that they dont follow the traditional song structures that so many of the classic bands did.

To me thats a new take on things. They didnt re-invent the wheel or anything but I dont think they sound like Iron Maiden, or Testament, or Overkill, or........

This thread was not about what band is better or what not. It's sole purpose was to find songs with the exact same melodies and chord progression in other songs that are ripped off and not saying "well everything sounds like everything." Blah blah blah...

Not to be rude but can we remain on topic please. Music is entirely subjective to the listener.

Right.

It was said that band A ripped off an entire genre. I disputed that. I have no intention of going off topic with it.

There is a Firehouse song, I cant remember the title, but its on the 2nd album.... That the second half of the guitar solo is a direct replica of the ending to the guitar solo in Ozzy's "No More Tears".

I dont know which came out first.

Well as a matter of fact sometimes they do not intend to rip off artists, Its the same way about band names my cousin Robin who plays in the Norwegian black metal band Creep Colony they didnt know that there was a band from Canada who played death metal with th same name, but i must agree Coldplay did crap on their own legs sort of speak when they copied satriani. Though in general i like Coldplay and have nothing against them smile.gif

These days unless there very progressive its hard for metal bands to something very original because theres so much metal around, one song is going to sound like another.

The biggest rip off I know is Metallica - Sanitarium ripping off Bleak House - Rainbow Warriors. Also Seek and Destroy is ripping off Saxon - Princess Of The Night.

That one's a classic rip off aswell. Mikael Åkerfeldt is a master when it comes to ripping of songs.

I don't really like Avenged Sevenfold as far as i know they only have one good song they "really" made themselves I wont see you tonight i think it was made because of a bandmember wanted to commit suicide and another was just in time to stop the suicidal one. Anyways i saw them at grasspop this year it was not good even Lauren Harris was better...
