Somehow, I've always discovered that books are always better than the movies made after them, just because of the simple fact that a book STIMULATES your imagination - you design the look, smell, feel and sound of EVERYTHING inside there so actually you can be a little movie maker inside your own mind

How does it work for you guys?

I definitely agree Cosmin.. although it sometimes depends whether you experience the movie or the book first, do you think ?

I remember reading Where Eagles Dare and picturing everything in my head.. but the movie was noway near as good. When it comes to old wartime books by Alistair McLean or Jack Higgins, the films will never do them justice.

These days movies are a lot more impressive with effects and realism etc.. but in the 70's, 80's & 90's no way..

But you should never underestimate the fun you can have when you go to the movies with good friends (or a nice girl)...

I'd have to say book as well but Ben I think you have a point when you say it depends which one you experience first. Ultimately I think the book is going to give you more insight but if you saw the movie first you'll already have a picture in your head as to what is going on, so you might not find the book as enjoyable if it varies a little from the movie.

I have to say movie, it takes longer to read a book, plus I prefer to see images and listen , but also I can drink cola and eat nachos whilst watching a movie , I don't see alot of people reading a book and eating nachos and drinking cola, or so , I am not much of a book guy, I don't think I actually have read a book from the start to the end
But I understand why you would choose a book, theres alot more to it, like Lord of the Rings book compared to the movie, but me and books aren't good friends, also because they end up giving me a headache most of the time....

The last books I've read (that have movies based on them) were Shutter Island and Prestige.
I really love reading filmed books - anyone have any recommendations ?

Hehe ^^, you can also sit back and have a beer whilst watching a movie ^^, and this is the most important one, you can watch a movie whilst playing guitar!

Mystic River. It's by the same author as Shutter Island. Also anything by Cormac McCarthy like The Road or No Country for Old Men. Great books and great movies as well. Also the Harry Potter books are well worth the read. SO much not in the movies

In my opinion books are way better than movies. Every book I've read is better than its screen version. You may laught at me, but I've read Twillight saga and I should say that it is not as bad as the movie. I even liked it

I like movies that are made from books. The are also some new series, like the Game of Thrones, that is also based on a book, and the story and production is excellent, movie like, but with the feel of a series (and it lasts longer than a movie, which is good - more to watch)

Good morning mates! Well, a glass of wine works out great in a lot of situations - but yes, Sinisa is right - the perfect recipe for a cold evening is a good book, a glass of red wine, some relaxing music - Enya perhaps?

Someone should really film the entire Border trilogy .

I prefer books but some film adaptations can work.

Very often, for me, short stories and novellas translate to film much better than a full novel, perhaps because the narrative is brief enough for a film to do it justice. Joyce´s The Dead is a good example - wonderful short story and film adaptation. Another more recent example is The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas. Also maybe PK Dick´s Do Androids Dream..., which was filmed as Bladerunner. Here the film compliments rather than just offers a straight adaptation

One exception for a full length book is Ishiguru´s The Remains of the Day - personally I found the book torturous but enjoyed and far prefer the film. (I like Ishiguru normally but not The Remains...)

I say both!

Although movies always leave stuff untold, or might not be what I imagined in the first place, I usually have lots of fun watching movies of books I've read.

On the other hand I sometimes discover nice books thanks to the movies too!
