Success is not obtained overnight. It comes in instalments; you get a little bit today, a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate, you lose that day's success.

A while ago, when I started to play tube amps and needed quieter volumes, I read a lot about sculpting tone. Especially the use of EQ in multiple places before and after the amp. I got most of my info from an old site, http://www.amptone.com , which is a little dated but still has a lot of good info on the use of boxes and amps, especially the EQ section. It's been a while since I read the stuff presented there, but it was integral, with other things, in understanding how to create tones and many of the concepts help when I'm fiddling around.

I'm sure there are other sites that have more up to date detailed info, but the basics don't really change. Learning about EQ and pedals, I think, is just as important as the amp and practice, that is if your using them.

The vice grip is a very good compressor smile.gif If you can understand it, the same sorts of principles apply to rack based compressors. So being able to tweak the settings to gain some leverage in your tone is a big plus in your audio arsenal. smile.gif:
