GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Practice Practice Practice

Posted by: dcz702 Apr 15 2013, 07:00 AM

I've read couple threads that I was really glad I saw, I've been playing everyday for hours, and I have a bad habit of when I can't seem to get a certain part right I take it from the top and play the whole solo over instead of isolating the part where I have a problem with. I've been braking this habit but I still find myself doing it. I have to say now that I do it less I see my progression a lot quicker. And I've learned a few lessons here and I still go through all of them every time I practice and I've found that when I set out to practice a specific piece, for instance I'm on a black sabbath lesson now, and I hear it all coming together quickly but I get tired of practicing. So.... I strat practicing another tune or technique and when I come back it just feels like its closer and easier. And makes practicing less... Uh what's the word? Boring I guess. And it's more fun. I've been playing all day today so much material. And I feel like I got a lot of quality practice in today.

Along with the lessons at gmc im jammin this, for those who haven't heard it in awhile such a great tune.

Hey mate, can you please re-post the embedding? It doesn't appear ... sad.gif

that's great about your practice breakthroughs! I find the same thing myself, that I want to go back and run a whole solo or tune when I get stuck, but it's much more beneficial to focus in on a few tough sections and get them down, rather than try to run the whole thing. As well, taking a break from material and then coming back, even the next day, can often produce solid results as it gives your brain, fingers and ears a chance to digest the material that you've learned in the previous session. Great way to go about things, glad it's paying off for you!

Don't know why but when I post links from my ipad or iPhone using the insert it will not show unless I'm on my ipad or iPhone. Guess I just have to do links instead of insert if I'm using a tablet. Staying at the girls house tonight, away from my computer

Everyone has strategies for keeping on track with practice. I like to time my sessions and split them up into 45 mins per topic smile.gif
