How Good Are Non-prestige Ibanez Guitars?

Although I like how my Schecter Hellraiser 7 String looks and plays, I don't like how it sounds mad.gif
The massive mahagony body and neck give me too much low end for my taste so I might sell it and get something diffrent.
I looked at Ibanez and the Prestige Rg 1527 but that one is made of Basswood which I don't like too much...

While browsing I found the Ibanez S7320 guitars which are made from mahagony too, but with a really thin body and a maple neck; there shouldn't be any excessive low end problems+ the guitar looks cool!

Now I wonder:
How good is this guitar? I have only played Prestige Ibanez guitars and they were top notch (aside from the stock pickups)
The pickup issue would be the same with the 7320 but that can be fixed. Now, how is the wood quality? The craftsmanship? How is the Zero Resistance Tremolo? Are Indonesian Ibanez guitars worth their money or something to avoid?

im sorry to break it to you, but the s7320 is one of the worst ibanez S's ever made, maybe even one of the worst guitars.

The trem radius and neck radius do not match, thus you cant get as low action as you should and get a lot of buzzing

for an ibanez S, used is always the way to go, you got used to the MIJ prestiges, the indo made guitars will really be a downgrade. They have made high end S 7 strings like the S7420 which looks really nice as well. The ZR trem itself is top notch however, and thats the only good thing about that guitar, the 7 string ZR.

the choice is yours, but for the price, the craftsmenship, the quality....it is not a good buy, especially for someone used to higher quality

Thanks for your Ibanez wisdom Marc!

I have found a guy who sells his 1999 S7420 in mint condition to me for a good price!
I get a better 7 String for less money than I payed for the Schecter; I can resell the Schecter and I will even have money to spare for new pickups!!!

Honestly
That wasn't my intention at all! ohmy.gif I didd't make a profit out of selling the guitar, I just spend less for another one!

I looked for a good 7 string guitar, heard good things about Schecter, I bought one used for 600 Euros

I didn't like it too much, I resell it for the same amount and look for an alternative, I look for Ibanez

I write this thread, you point me to the S7420, I find a seller who sells one for 450!

I think I was just lucky tongue.gif

I read that they were made in the same factory in Japan where Prestiges are produced today so it basicly IS a Prestige, they just weren't labeled that way in the 90's...

well since the 80's, ibanez used the fuigigen (spelling?) factory in japan...which is why you see an "F" in the front of MIJ serial numbers for ibanez guitars

so yes, it will have the same parts (mostly) and quality as a prestige.

interesting fact: ESP and greco guitars along with some others were also made in that factory for a while....they used the same parts and woods, just had a different shape and logo
