I've done a little reading on this term as I see it frequently. Not sure if I understand tho. What is a pedal tone?

It's an underlying note that stays the same over chord changes. It's usually played on bass and is the 1st or 5th of the scale.

Ithink a good example of this is Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Coming"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU7sBgjKDCI The bass and rhythm guitar are "pedaling" on the F# during the entire intro and verse. (and more) -------------------- My Gear

A pedal tone is a note played over and over to create cool intervals with another instrument. My cello teacher (yes, I play that too) told me to play, say, an A on my tuner over an A major scale. This way I could make sure I was playing in tune. (the cello is fretless, so it's easy to get out of tune. )
-------------------- I spelled my username wrong...I didn't even think that was possible!
Look at the topic for my guitar... Finished Guitar Build Gear: Homemade strat (You still need to look at its topic!) Squier strat (probably going to get rid of it and get another guitar instead) :) Line 6 spider amp (not actually used for anything, just acts as a speaker) Digitech Gnx2 (kind of old, but cheap, and sounds amazing!) |

Pedal tones on brass instruments are the lowest notes possible to play.

Only here they call it "potato" (krompir) tone I don't think krompir is the word for pedal tone, pedal tone is repetitive note among other notes, Bach's trademark I would say. -------------------- Youtube

Thanks for clarifying Muris, I'm a bit weak in formal music theory, I should do some reading.
