Listen my band wants to do some home recording and I need some suggestions. I know MAC is the way to go but I'm not a producer and I don't want to be, we just want to make some decent audio that we can edit and clean up. So I have a windows PC and an 8 channel mixer. We are hooking up 2 mics, 2 guitars, a bass, and then we will play the songs twice and mic the drums on a seperate session. My delema ( cannot spell) is that I need hardware to hook the mixer into my computer and I do not want to spend a lot of money. The PC should be ok for us, 1gb ram, 80gb harddrive, 3.2gb pent 4 with HT. We will get a bigger harddrive when we need it of course but for starter 80 is plenty.

I am using a Yamaha EMX312SC 8-Channel Powered Mixer. Click here for musicians friend link.

Any suggestions, pref. under $100. Doesn't have to have a lot of features, just has to hook up analog or digital (id prefer digital but ill take analog to save money).

just for starters maybe the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 USB-Audio Interface. click here!!!@#$@$@5sdfjgbhzd

Ty for your input guys

I've been a member for just over a week, and I already feel like im really improving, if you read my introduce yourself post, I said I never learned scaled but I want to get serious now, In this one week I've been able to play up and down Am and Em pentatonic, I have fun just sitting around with my gutar and Kris' backing tracks and just jam for like an hour, Just today i added some two hand tapping to it, but my next focus is speedpicking, my right hand is super fast but my left hand fingers just can't keep up, im hoping I'll have some decent skills within the next month. So I Just wanted to say thanks for making this site Kris, sweedish guitar players rock! (lol i watch too much metalocalypse)

Mexican Strat - My first guitar!

Jackson RR-3 - Bad ass looking axe, I'm gonna start leaving this one in Drop C and maybe putting some EMG actives in it.

Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany - Faded wood, awesome finish

Fender Stage 100 Combo - Old, overdrive reverb knob ripped off, lots of noise, but its my practice amp at home, sounds pretty tight when I dont blast it, which at home I dont.

B-52 ATA-100 half stack - All tube, awesome sound, awesome price. Got it on sale for $1000. If I had the money for a Marshall, I prolly still would of got this and put the leftover money towards effects or something.

Pedals/Effects: SKB ps-45 pedal board, boss flanger, boss tuner, boss delay dd-3, boss EQ-7.

My friend's band is very metallica-esk and they all very good musicians that have been playing together since they were in 7th grade, we are all 21-23 now. The lead guitarist has been in the band for 2 years. They play alot of decent sized venus in the philly area. Trocadero, Crocadile rock, etc. They have been trying so hard to get noticed. They have been on Bam Margera's show on sirius satelite radio (Faction), and they have been on 94.1wysp FM radio twice, once was on the Kidd Chris show and he made fun of them (lol cause he doesnt like metal). They have almost 40k fans on myspace, and they had a web broadcast recently were they discovered they have oversea fans which had questions for them, which they thought was exciting.

But this post if for you to get to their myspace site and check them out and vote for them to win the contest posting on their page. If they win they get two things, a Virgin Records Demo Recording contract, and one of their songs featured in Playstation 3's upcoming Burnout game. Last I checked they are like the top 20 for votes. So give them a NINE!!!!!! (best)

Later,
Chris

About me!!! Howdy, I am Chris. Incase your wondering what the hell is Ironhead, I am a Harley Enthusiast from right outside of Philadelphia, PA USA and I have a 2006 Dyna Wide Glide. I have been a guitarist since I was about 15 or 16, and I am 21 now as of Dec 27, 2006 - and no I do not get screwed on presents biggrin.gif . I have been with my gf for over 3 years. I do not consider myself good based on the fact that I have been playing for 5 years. When I first started it was because my brother borrowed a friends guitar and he never took it back so I picked up it up and learned the 2 main chords to what I consider one of the easiest songs ever, Horse with no name. I was hooked. But I never got serious, I made a bad habbit of not caring AT ALL about theory and scaled and such and I learned RIFFs of my favorite metallica songs, and for some reason always skipped the solos and that stuff. I am all self-taught. But recently my older brother, age 29, discovered he has an awesome voice, and my best friend is a drummer so we started a band, I have gotten so serious. In the past I would stop playing guitar for months at a time cause I'd get frustrated. I never took into consideration that I was practicing all wrong.

My tip for newbies, if you have musican friends, start a band and set a goal to play a small club. I have never worked so hard. Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays my band practices songs from Metallica, Shinedown, STP, Skynyrd, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Pearl Jam, and basically any soft rock/ hard rock/ heavy metal we like. So in short over the last few months I have progressed at an insane rate. But I am stumped, I cannot improvise or shred for the life of me, that is where GMC comes into play. I picked GMC cause Kristofer reminds me of my friends and myself, we are all retarded (that is a compliment hahahaha), I just mean we are ourselves, we are crazy and you know what.....screw what people think cause we have fun.

IF ANYONE LIVES NEAR PHILLY AND PLAYS BASS EMAIL ME TO JOIN A BAND OF INTERMEDIATE MUSICIANS.

I own two Verizon Wireless Authorized retailers, and we constantly have slow points. So I get in about 1 hour of practice a day at work, 5 days a week. Not to mention 2.5+ hours 3 times a week with band.

My Gear:
Fender Strat (Mexican) - Old and abused, my first.
Epiphone Acoustic Guitar- cheap as hell.
Jackson RR-5 - Freaking cool looking, but I hate Floyd Bridges
My Baby - Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded Wood (Awesome Tone - Awesome Price)
Fender MS-2 (Belt Amp for practice at work)
Fender Stage 100 (Practice AMP POS)
B-52 ATA-100 (All Tube tri-rectifier half stack, amazing sound for only $1000)
Boss Tuner, Boss Delay DD-3, Boss Flanger, Boss EQ, Bad Horsie Wah
SKB Pedal Board

For New at Shreding, would you suggest starting at The Pentatonic Scale lessons??
