Guitar - naturally. Creative writing and expressionism, web programming and my kids..

I'm one of those self-employed people who craves time to spend with his family, and time to spend alone with my guitar learning something new or just recording something for the hell of it. Give me a night in with a guitar, large amp and the neighbours on holiday, over a nightclub...anyday ;)

Animal lover, wolves being my favourite wild animal, and obviously the domestic dog (even the little ratty type ones) is my favourite - though we don't have one, not enough time for me to look after one - Instead I have a cornsnake and a 'dog'ferret (cute, funny, BIG and opinionated) 3 kids and my partner's 4 kids from her previous relationship - Quite a handful!

Of course there are days when I send the ferret to school and put one of the kids into his run by mistake, but normally things are okay...

He does look cute in a school uniform though.

Hey Guys

I know this is probably the lamest thing anyone has ever asked, but I'm looking for some examples, lessons I guess, on creating interesting backing.

We all want to play lead lol - but my son, who's started much younger than I did, is excelling at soloing (compared to me) and I'd like to provide him with some more 'interesting' backing that I haven't ripped off from someone else...

So how do we build backing track? Drum sequencing isn't a problem, but strum patterns etc... I have to say I'm improvising and finding myself using a lot of the same rubbish over and over again...

Consciously I've tried to change this, but any tips from others would be well appreciated!

Hi guys, hi Kriss...

typically I've been more into soft rock, later queen and so on as I progress through guitar - however I would love to pick up a few techniques to play backing.

My training schedule involves a lot of work on scales, moving around, reinforcing (bad habits R us beating) alternate picking techniques, but this isn't helping me with a huge amount of 'background' work.

I'd love to be able to play those crunchy chunky backings heard in the the likes of Nickelback, Evanescence etc, but can't seem to get close to the sound and rhythm... the whole BWACHHH! BUCHH BUCHH sounds.

Anyone suggest any techniques for working on that?

Hey Kris,

Congrats on the new front page - for non-members it's fantastic.

I love watching websites develop into something other sites envy!! Give my congrats to your designer/programmer too!!!

Hey Kris,

I've been locked in the forums pretty much all day, and chasing links like Best Practise, metronome software and so on - I'm always beside a computer, so software is a big part of what I do...

It just dawned on me that it's a shame that good links, such as Best Practise and audiacity are lost in the depths of time...

How about a stickied 'Software Reccomended by GMCers" thread? All legal of course! And with a disclaimer to say that you are NOT responsible for the software the posts link to...

Watcha think?

Hey everyone!!

What a fantastic site, so impressed! I downloaded the DVD and was astounded, and now here I am. Good work Kris - being a web designer I'm less likely to sign up for anything online than most!

So I've been playing for years, but I'm self-employed and have a hectic family so it was hard finding time to practise - now I've committed to it, and am spending more time revising the basics than ever before!

My skills are still amateur, obviously, a little theory, a few scales - can copy and mimic a few of my fave artists and read tab pretty well, but in the two videos I've sat with so far, I've learned so much!!

And who'd have thought a little shortcut picking would cause so many problems!!

Great community, fantastic information, brilliant site - GO KRIS GO KRIS!! wink.gif
