Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Sweeps: Major & Minor by Lian Gerbino

The hardest lesson for me thus far. I've always been afraid of sweep picking and thought I could never master this technique (not that I'm anywhere near mastering it anyway :)) but this lesson gave me confidence that hard work will pay off. Thanks Lian and GMC for the amazing job you're doing for us aspiring guitarists! Self assessment: I can hear some synchronization problems here and there. I know they exist and will try harder to fix them. Cheers, -Val

Hi Val - you mentioned yourself about a few minor synchronisation issues. It's nothing too bad to worry about.. the majority of the performance was excellent.

First of all, you've got the sweeping technique happening exactly as it should. You've already figured out for yourself that a slight wrist roll helps you with the direction change.

Timing is really good here too.

Sliding - a lot of people have timing / sync issues when performing slides. I noticed that it was during the direction turn around involving the slides that you had your 'issues'. It's just a case of timing, that's all.

Overall, excellent work - well done!

Excellent work!

Issues you've mentioned are minor and you do not make anything wrong - just a few spots where you lack some precision but all the mechanics work great in both of your hands. Very often players tend to leave a lot of noise from unwanted strings or tend to loose note separation while going from one string to another. This doesn't happen in your case. You can easily count this lesson into your "success case" smile.gif

Hi mate,

As Ben and Darius said, this lesson shows that your sweep picking technique is very promising. There are a few moments in which you loose sync but most of the lesson sounds tight and clear! And that's not an easy job!

Your motion is correct and the overall sounds smooth and clean. I would continue practicing this one a bit more but would also start a new more advanced Sweep Picking lesson.

Congrats!
