If it is, I get this
E-
B-
G-
D-4-7
A-5-7-8
E-5-7-8

Mixo is the 5th. So D-E-F-G-A! So its a with a lowerd 7th... right?tongue.gif

That isn't true I'm afraid. You also have a C in D Mixo which is a C# in A Major. Unless I'm being a silly goose. D Mixolydian has the same notes as G Major exactly.

A Major - A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G#
D Mixolydian - A, B, C, D, E, F#, G
G Major - A, B, C, D, E, F#, G

EXACTLY? How do you get there? Is there like a formula? Like to figure out which mixolidyan is the same as which major chord?

And, how can I flatten the third.. since I already have that:P

So confusing:(

The formulae for the mixolydian scale is 1 2 3 4 5 6 b7.

Its modal chord progression is:

I7 IImin IIIdim IVmaj Vmin VImin bVIImaj

Not a clue lol. I just learnt every pattern in every key because of kjutte lol. He inspired me to know them all. And now I do it has helped significantly. I just looked at it and it seems if you have C Major you add 7 half notes to get G Mixolydian and the same for every other one. So add seven half notes to the major root to get Mixolydian transformation. So basically the 5th of the root note in the major key

C Major - G Mixo
D Major - A Mixo

etc

Yeah. Judging from the patterns however, it has the exact same notes as Gionian, Eaeolian, F#locrian etc.

And back to the flat 3rd. if you flatted the third you'll have 1 2 b3 4 5 6 b7. This is the Dorian scale.

This is the way to understand modes I like the most.
Find out if it's major or minor mode and compare
it to major/minor scale.
There should be only 1 note of difference,Locrian is an exception tho.

I like this approach too, because inside the known boxes you simply modify one note (most times), it makes it easier for me for instance if I want to play E Dorian, to simply raise the 6th on my E minor scale.

Just to clarify for the sake of those following this one- i think Muris meant Locrian is the exception here..

Lydian = Major scale w/ aug 4th
Locrian = Minor scale w/ b2 and dim 5th

And i agree- this is defnitely the best way to show the difference in the modes, for too many reasons.
